Apparently Ingram and family are good friends with a strong UVA connection and that connection supposedly put in a good word for him with coach TB and staff.

Now on the right thread! HGN - long-time reader, and first time poster here. Thank you for all of the info!
A while back, I think you mentioned the staff were evaluating Jeremy Sochan. After that, I looked up his FIBA U-16 highlights, and while the level of competition wasn’t necessarily particularly high, I thought his skillset was pretty intriguing relative to many highlight reels I’ve watched.
Has there been any additional contact or interest that you have heard of, or is everything pretty much frozen due to the current situation and because we are waiting on our top targets to decide?
That’s a good question. I checked him out too and had similar thoughts. I certainly thought he was someone we would keep tabs on
Appreciate the kind words @MaineWahoo. Don’t be shy around here!
The way I understand it, Johnny Carpenter sort of discovered Sochan at the FIBA event you’re talking about. Johnny coached a team there, forget which country now. Assistants saw him play at least twice during the season. I really don’t know where things stand. He mentioned UVA in an interview not that long ago. He doesn’t have many scholarship offers. Lots of interests. Coaches wanted to see him play on the EYBL this Spring. UVA is definitely still in contact and I don’t think DaRon Holmes is deciding for a while. That’s not something they’ll wait around on now, especially if they get Murphy.
There are several of these situations. Stevie Mitchell or Benny Williams. Not positive Sochan fits in there, maybe though. Guys that in all probability were going to be offered scholarships over the next two weeks of live periods. It’s one of the things I’m curious to see how they handle.
HGN do you think that Richmond is a tough area for Tony to recruit? I say that because a couple or three years ago there was an article featuring the Big Three at the time: Coleman, Bacot, and Todd. I am pretty close to the family of one of them and was told that while Tony is respected and liked, his recruiting style is tentative unlike the other coaches and besides UNC and Duke are simply seen as dream schools. And I worry that there might be some blowback about how the Coleman situation went down (it’s a bit different than what’s been expressed above and Tony frankly probably could have done better). I ask because I get this feeling that Reid might be the next one to let us down.
Reid will be a Hoo.
Well I think there’s two aspects to this. The first is that there’s not the attachment to UVA basketball statewide that maybe there should be. I think that’s changing as kids are growing up with it being a thing now. But in-state recruits, Richmond or otherwise, aren’t blown away by it. They’re not fans. Most of them don’t think of it in the way that some of you probably would, representing your home state etc. Basically all we have is a small geographical advantage. And when Duke and UNC aren’t far away, it’s not a large one.
The other part is there two types of recruits to Tony Bennett. His guys, and the rest. None of those other three you mentioned were his guys for various reasons. While watching Bacot July before his junior year, Tony fell in love with his lesser known teammate Oscar Tshiebwe. That’s who he focused on. Henry was sort of a situational thing. They were more concerned with guards. I get what you’re saying that Bennett could have handled it better, but there’s 2 sides to that. He had reasons and from his point of view things worked out pretty darn well. And Todd was never an option. Bottom line is none of them compare to the way Efton Reid has been recruited. He’s Tony’s guy from the jump.
Jake Weingarten just said on instagram live that Murphy took virtual visits to all 4 of his finalists. Said he hasn’t decided yet and isn’t that close.
Thanks for the info! Will be interesting to see when they start dropping more offers for '21.
Coincidentally, when I searched for Sochan just now, looks like a new highlight reel from his recent season in Indiana just dropped today (link below).
He was spot on with Tshiebwe from a talent standpoint (though OT was probably a lock for WVU). I think Tshiebwe had a much stronger season than Bacot.
Sochan is a beast
Can’t say I’m familiar with this source but look there’s a ton of UVA smoke around Trevor lately. Anyone that follows his IG knows what I’m talking about.

Asking around about that the credibility of that twitter account, and Trevor. Account is new but the person behind it does seem to be in the circle, talks to some of the right people. Still these accounts pop up. People try to make realistic predictions to gain a rep, pick up followers. We’ll see.
“Trevor isn’t even close to making a decision” What I was just told.
But weren’t we told last night that Murphy hasn’t made a decision yet and is not close to making one? I know that’s not true for a few reasons. I see Keels wearing so much UVA gear- it’s crazy. I never see any Nova, UNC, or any of the other schools that are recruiting him being represented by him. Who knows
lol Ben’s on it. Slight difference is one came from a reporter who honestly didn’t know at that time. This is from someone close to Trevor. They didn’t like that tweet at all. Doesn’t make your point invalid though.
You know he’s gonna do that now to throw up the smokescreen ![]()
