I like power - I think in the long run he is more versatile. Milan gives me Matthew Hurt vibes, in that he can really only play power forward, which I don’t think is as useful in our system. This is doubly true if Power can be a 36.5-39% college shooter.
This is going to sound controversial but Milan the way he’s playing is better than Matthew Hurt. Just that 1) i don’t see the UVA fit and I don’t know if he does either. He doesn’t seem that excited about UVA lol. and 2) He will have big time offers (Gonzaga and Kentucky) that essentially eliminate us.
Even with that said I still take Power over Milan because of what you said. Power is so much more versatile on both ends of the floor and so much more fluid/there is a lot more to work with. Power is also better than his current rank and will have 3-4 years with Tony and staff to develop.
Idk is it easier to swim the English Channel or climb Everest?
Think if you grew up playing basketball and lot of it you can vastly improve your shot at age 19 or whatever on. Just have to know how to work
Also thing to keep in mind is we would pair him with Traudt. If we had Mamadi it might make more sense to take Milan but with Traudt it makes sense to pair him with another versatile weapon.
Milan would fit perfectly between Leon Bond and a mamadi big like Tafara. But we don’t have that big immediately after Kadin and if we get Buchanan he will still need to most likely redshirt and develop a little.
TJ Power and Isaac Traudt combo is what the Clemson front court this year thought they were.
Good analogy here
I can’t shake the feeling that if we’re going to push for Buchanan to redshirt, we likely don’t get him
Don’t get why you would redshirt as the student anymore - instead, if you aren’t P5 ready, go score 18PPG at Davidson or wherever and then transfer up
Eric Bossi on 247 said Buchanan’s parents understand the value of redshirting. His older brother redshirted for mens volleyball at Hawaii and his mom help others with development and recruiting consultation/she understands the business
He is going to redshirt regardless of where he goes.
Gotcha. We’ll see. Heard a lot of the same talk about Jabri. I’m hopeful we land him and he does whatever Tony thinks is in the best interest of the program.
Lol. Completely different situations. Eric Bossi didn’t chime in directly talking about how the Buchanans have talked about redshirting.
#40ballbri vs a kid in the 80-120 range where UVA is his first big offer and his family has experiencing with appreciating redshirts on top of openly discussing it.
It’s interesting to see what other schools are liking the tweets of stuff involving our targets.
Ive noticed the UCLA equivalent of Johnny Carpenter (our director of player personnel) liking a lot of Buchanan’s stuff along with Utah staff. The same with Baylor and TJ Power. Also not an official position but a few UConn fan accounts liking Elijah Gertrude stuff when I click to see the likes on posts involving Getrude.
These clips show more of the Hunter side. Also he doesn’t have a twitter account so he’s perfect for us (neither does Elijah Gertrude. And TJ Power doesn’t have an instagram.)

Don’t want to gunk up another thread with my RS objections but “planning” to redshirt guys seems to me like stuck-in-the-past decision making.
The RS option just confuses folks: kids, parents, fans, staffs, me, you, etc.
Simplify: if a kid can play, play him. If a kid can’t play, don’t play him, and maybe buy less green bananas next time.
““planning” to redshirt guys seems to me like stuck-in-the-past decision making.”
100%
I mean Villanova and Gonzaga have essentially redshirted their entire 2021 classes.
Ripe bananas go to the highest bidder. And if the green bananas eventually spoil at least you’ll get some banana before the rest go bad
The 5th year complicated things a bit (Arch, the Nova big) …
(Joke coming…) also your evidence that it’s not stuck in the last thinking is (a) guy who doesn’t know about Uber and (b) guy who just retired. ![]()
If it’s ever trivia night and the subject is mid to low level college basketball personnel, you are, without a doubt, my phone a friend lifeline.
