Summer Recruiting

Power seems like he’s a better overall player / better (mostly more fluid) athlete. But Milan seems like he has that one elite skill to build on. What can Power do at an elite level? (To be fair, these are questions beyond just, are they good? But how good?).

Hard to get a read on Power’s defense with them playing zone. Who plays zone in AAU? C’mon, BABC coach.

Power blocks a shot (?) off frame.

I think him watching Reid Ducharme takes away a lot from what he can do.

I think he’s an elite 3pt shooters when he has competent passing teammates and not stuck being a playmaker inthe middle of the zone

Missed dunk - he really does have some Key in his game!

Is it easier to get TJ Power to be the shooter Milan is, or is it easier to get Milan to be as versatile as TJ? I say the former by a mile.

Edit: man TJ Power is open in the corner so much when he isn’t in the middle of the zone. Its okay to rack up assists teammates

Key missed too many gimmes and lay ups. Kody was the dunk bricker.

Not sure if this is a minority view or not, but I wonder if both are mostly baked in by their age…

Clarify? Like this is who they will be? Didn’t Joe Harris become the shooter he was after his time at UVA (he was good but never that elite).

I think you’re probably right. And I still want to pick the better shooter if given the chance. I don’t ever want to watch a 12 point half brick fest again.

This is probably one of the many reasons I’m not a millionaire college basketball coach though.

Will have to think on it. Maybe splitting hairs, but I think guys can become more consistent shooters through repetition, etc, but the raw skill is there or not, IMO. But there are obviously counterexamples.

Power definitely seems like at least a decent shooter, though. Just sub-elite. Should add the normal caveat: I don’t really know what I’m talking about. I am watching 50% of the time while I am doing something in another tab…

I think the raw skills is there for TJ Power. He was 47.8% from 3 before this weekend in AAU play.

Again not saying Milan is bad though. He is very good. I just dont see him being what we need in the front court. The packline would struggle like it has the last two seasons where we havent looked like UVA.

Fair - I wanna backtrack a bit. I’m not saying Power’s a bad shooter or even a mediocre shooter. Just that, based on watching him shoot it a few times this weekend, he didn’t seem like an elite shooter. (He might of course be an elite shooter, and I just watched some sub-elite examples).

I think finding that open man in the corner and feeding him the ball is a skill. Not sure if it’s selfishness (it might be) as much as lack of passing skill / court vision / etc.

I don’t know man. This one time I tried making some “jump” shots and I couldn’t. Then I practiced for like 10 minutes. Still couldn’t. My conclusion is if you can shoot you can shoot and if you can’t you might be me.

You must not watch my pick up games. Can’t ht anything for an hour and then that last game - 5/6 from 3.

God Damn Milan has a flame thrower. I would liken TJ Power’s 3pt shooting coming in to Joe Harris. Milan is straight up Bradey Manek last season LOL. But again all the other factors.

Power didn’t have that better 2nd half like the other games where he started slow. But still blocked and contested a lot of shots at the time moved the ball well.

Still wouldn’t take Milan over TJ Power, but I do envy the school that gets Milan’s 3pt shooting and doesn’t care much for defense.

I do like the idea of our front court trio being 5th year Shedrick 2nd year Traudt and first year Power. Other teams would hate a packline with experienced rim protector bigs and then the one backup being highly mobile and able to shoot from distance.

Also a lineup of

Reece
Isaac/Taine
Dunn/Bond
Power
Traudt

Wow wow

Ooof Milan hits the floater on TJ Power to go up 1 with 3 seconds left

$500 TJ does not get the last shot. Probably the last option here for some dumb reason

edit: lmao I thought that guard was going to pass back to Power who was sorta open but alas hero ball kicks in. TJ needs a new aau team LOL. Onto his UVA official

5-15 fg, 1-2 from 3. A whole lot of rim outs/shots looked good but just not falling. Hauser vs Ohio vibes. Did show his versatility a lot and there is A LOT to work with.

Milan can shoot the hell out of the ball. Everything else is a work in progress but those flaws don’t come to the forefront when you are literally on fire from everywhere on the floor.

Court 1: Tafara at 12:30 and then the event is over.

Give me

Tafara in 2022

Elijah Gertrude (possible 4 year guard/pg who can play off the ball)
Freddie Dilione (started day 1 guard for two years/pg off and on the ball)
TJ Power

Blake Buchanan (redshirted to 2024)
Cody Williams (redshirted to 2024 to add muscle/convince him of our developmental path with his type of wings/appeal to his high character/top 60 recruits do redshirt even if rare. See Trey Kaufman and literally Villanova and Gonzagas 2021 classes)
Or don’t redshirt him lol. His handle isn’t that raw watching more clips. Im hooked.

In the TJ Power vs Milan Momcilovic debate, I also think we won’t have to necessarily make the decision on our own. Cause Milan will become a 5 star and that door will close anyways.
