It is the reason I hate that fanbase with a burning passion. Theyāre both ridiculous and petty.
Journalists use the em-dash more than any other group of people I know. I absolutely over-use it. The idea that the em-dash is a sign of AI is a myth. The real sign of AI: inaccurate information and banal prose.
Guys, the semicolon is there on your keyboard just begging to be used.
Perfect tweet. No notes.

A good percentage of the stuff AI models have stolen to be used in their training data was written by journalists, which probably explains the em-dash prevalence.
Who among us hasnāt bought a ticket to a tech game, then traveled to said game wearing UVA gear, just so you could watch tech win and then photobomb their celebration. What a chode that hillbilly is.
Itās never been about love for tech. Itās always been about hate for UVA. Itās all they got.
Iāve said for years that seeing us lose is more important to VT fans than their own team being good. NC State has an inferiority complex towards UNC in hoops but at least UNC has been better for 40+ yearsā¦VT has been better than us in football yet itās still there.
I had no idea they were called em dashes. Is that to distinguish them from other dashes? Nevermind, Iāll google it.
Edit: things I never knew before reading about it here.
Em Dash vs. Hyphen vs. En Dash
-
Hyphen (-): Shortest; joins words (e.g., āstate-of-the-artā) or separates syllables.
-
En Dash (ā): Medium length; indicates ranges (e.g., ā9ā5ā) or connections (e.g., āNew YorkāLondon flightā).
-
Em Dash (ā): Longest; creates strong breaks or emphasis, replacing commas/parentheses/colons.
Despite my pre-game talk about not being too invested in this game⦠it was really critical to the perception of this season, and the perception of the program. Lose that game, weāre paper tigers who racked up wins against bad ACC teams and then were exposed when it counted. Win that game, weāre legit, 11 wins, won the Gator Bowl against an SEC team.
We now have real demonstrated success to pitch to recruits. Not just cash!
While I donāt think 2025 was the ābestā Hoo team, canāt argue with 11 wins and a bowl win in a recognized/historic bowl game.
This season exceeded my expectations, and is a great springboard going into 2026.
I wonder if you succumbed, like I did, despite my resistance, to the ESPN hype about the SEC. In order to hype their money engine, ESPN hypes their money makers to no end to constantly hammer, like a bad case of diarrhea, that the SEC cannot be competed with by the mere likes of the soon-to-be dissolved ACC. Even after our win, they and their cronies talk only about how Missouri blew it and not how UVA was the better team.
Still hasnāt been corrected by ESPN.
If you are suggesting that semicolons and em-dashes can be used interchangeably, you should try to avoid using either.
Mizzou didnāt have a win against a team at or above .500 all year. They didnāt look very good on Saturday - Iām told their QB that opted out isnāt much better than the backup we played against (who was worse than probably any ACC QB we played).
But the accomplishment by most is that we beat an SEC team. Seems like weāre feeding the engine a bit.
Iām just acknowledging public perception. Like it or not, you get no credit for beating a good ACC team, and you get undeserved credit for beating a mediocre SEC team; thatās just the way it is. So yes, the fact that the team we beat is an SEC team matters a great deal to the perception of our season and our program.
By every rating system, Missouri was the best team we played this year, ranked around 20 (Louisville was second at 27ish). Itās a good win and one we should be happy with.
Louisville (at least the healthier version we faced) was a much better team than Mizzou, imo.
The 2025 team wasnāt the most talented one in program history. Thatās probably 89-90 or 95 or 98. But the 2025 team had the best season in program history.
Most wins in a season - 11
Outright ACC Regular season champions (even though thatās not a thing, we were the 1 seed and in the time before the ACCCG, we wouldāve been ACC champs like we were in 89 and 95 - both ties where we won the H2H)
Won our rivalry game
Won our bowl game, one of the more prestigious ones outside the CFP/NY6, against a good SEC team
Epic field storm that went viral overnight that really got peopleās attention
Thatās a lot to be happy about. Iām not going to complain about this season and Iām sure Iāll have fond memories of it in the future. Iāll be wistful about not beating Duke and missing the playoff, but hopefully thatās not a once in a lifetime opportunity. That still doesnāt ruin my memory of this season though.
