The short of it is I’m retiring from the HGN thing. I’ll still be around on LRA and on social media and even still have the keys to the blog so I might do something there once in a while. No goodbyes needed. I’m just returning to amateur status.
Big thanks to T Dubs @Merch for bringing me on board six years ago. Then when I got him in hot water a few times, he stuck by me. It would have been easy to toss me under the bus. Never once did he or anyone else at LRA impose any sort of editorial controls. From day one, they let me do things however I wanted. That’s what I appreciated most.
I probably would have gotten out of this racket long ago if not for @JoeBoxley He’s been more of a help over the years than he realizes, filling in for some of my shortcomings and even gathering lots of intel without taking any credit. I appreciate you, Joe.
Most importantly, thanks to all the UVA fans who’ve supported me. They didn’t keep me here for my pleasant personality, that’s for sure. It was because so many of you followed along. I’m forever grateful.
Thank you, HGN. All of your work has transformed the UVA fan experience (at least mine) for the last several years. Hard to imagine enjoying UVA hoops any other way.

Thank you for everything you do and have done. Never in a million years would I think I’d have been this interested in UVA sports - prior to finding this littler corner of the internet, I was always a fan but didn’t know the first thing about recruiting or the X’s and O’s.

I owe so much to HGN. From just keeping us all in the loop throughout the years to the kindness he’s always shown me in being part of the LRA team. He didn’t have to help me but he’s always been great support.
Enjoy the time off and away from this man. You’ve certainly earned and deserve it! LRA is a better place because HGN was here.

Dang, just getting to see this this morning. I really appreciate all the work you have put in over the years HGN. Like others have said, there’s no doubt I’ve had a fuller fan experience following UVA basketball because of the work you’ve done covering the program. It’s almost silly how much I look forward to the VIP intel blogs lol
My all time favorite HGN story was the Hauser transfer drama lol Everyone in the recruiting world had said for a while that both brothers were committing to Wisconsin, and their boards insisted that it was a done deal, they were already going through admissions and everything….meanwhile HGN kept saying, and from the start(!) that there was a good chance we were in strong standing with Sam and the other brother wanted Michigan St.
When that unfolded, the Wiscy board meltdown was all time and we all did a proverbial victory lap on LRA because of HGN’s insights. Dude was on the money from the start, and after that I would tell other UVA fans “if HGN says it, you can take it to the bank.” HGN don’t miss!
Wow. Not much I can say that hasn’t been said by others already. I’ll keep it simple and say that HGN and his updates got me to enjoy and look forward to recruiting news, which was my least favorite part of being a college basketball fan. Well done, and thank you, HGN.

Very sad news today, but I’m grateful for everything you’ve done to bring me joy, excitement, anticipation(, and neurotic emotions) over the years with your updates.
