@Hooandtrue and @HoozGotNext … Im so uneducated about this stuff so I need my Mr Miyagi’s to help me.

  1. How much tampering happens during the last two months of the season? Like do players talk to other teams through their agents given the portal isn’t open yet. We hear the term ā€œtamperingā€œ a lot but when does it really start up? Like is it after Jan.1 or is there pre-planning based on geography.

  2. How much of a dip has high school recruiting taken in the last couple of years. We all heard Pitino this year say that he is ā€œnot recruiting any high school kidsā€. Is it down like 10% or 50% or 70%?

  3. Are recruits told about coaching changes/hires before fan bases? Do you have any sense of this?

  4. Should Jay Huff have played more early in his career?

I am a casual observer to the HS recruiting stuff and the early season portal trends. Maybe some other people need trail-guides as well.

A lot. 99% isn’t considered tampering though. As you said, they go through intermediaries, all within the rules. And more often than not, it’s initiated by the player’s side. Of course with agents involved now, that’s their job basically.

The 5th year stuff has hurt HS kids more than anything, shrinks the number of spots available. Other than that…there are still the same number of scholarships in the CBB universe but no doubt it’s pushed kids down a level. High major coaches see HS recruits as lottery tickets more now…they swing for homeruns more. If they don’t pan out, no biggie, you run them off and bring in replacement level transfers. I think it’s the lower level kids that are impacted more, as far as losing scholarships…scroll through low major rosters, most of them are almost all transfers. So lots of previous D1 kids are D2 now, and no doubt some are being pushed out of scholarship level to D3 or whatever. Getting rid of the 5th years will change some of it.

I don’t really know…probably case by case. If need be, yeah. Like if Odom is coming to UVA, someone associated with him has or will reach out to Mallory, even if everyone denies it.

@DavetheWave has thoughts on this, I understand.

Yes Huff should be playing more for Memphis right now - they simply play better when he plays.

Already being linked with BYU

He’s attended Stanford and Cal, but Virginia admissions will somehow find a way to not admit him.

I imagine any UVA linkage will not occur until Odom is officially announced. So guys could change.

I can’t believe we took Power over him.

Did we have a choice?

If bambgoye or however you spell it proves to be too expensive we should go after the guy named magoon because his name is magoon. Magoon probably means maul face in some language.

Magoon is an elite name. I don’t care if he can ball or not - get it done

I’m just adding a bit of sobering reality to this thread in that if the player is not a grad transfer or true freshman, his chances of UVA admissions accepting him are slim. I’m going to factor that in every potential portal transfer I look at.

True, but the admissions office REALLY worked with the football program this past portal season. I’d expect the same here.

In theory, Basketball should be easy because there are so few spots compared to football…. Let’s go admissions just get it done

Quiet day in the portal. This kid could be a stud. Solid efficiencies and MVC Freshman of the year, and he’s been know for a few years because of his and his older brother’s names (Always Wright) always show up on those ā€œBasketball all name teamsā€

edit: jk 0.47 PPP on Isolation attempts that’s horrible. Hard pass

DeDan Thomas already being linked to Florida (runner up for him last time) and UCLA

After watching some more tape this morning, I’m very high on Bamgboye. Think he has ACC DPOY potential, and that’s not even remotely a hot take.

Don’t want to assume he’s ours if Odom is our next coach, but have to think we’ll have the edge. Could see him being very popular given upside.

My concern, assuming it’s him and Arob, is we still do t have a lot of offense there. Just D and put backs. Which isn’t a bad place to start since our rebounding g and rim
Protection was awful
