Going way back- Makai Mason went from beating Baylor in the NCAAs to leading them in scoring his one year. But yeah it seems to be mostly role guys.
NIL is destroying Ivy League basketball. Before you had guys who chose Princeton over big schools for the degree. And once they were in, no way they would transfer unless it was after graduation. Now the stars are leaving early for the $$, and the days of stealing power conference recruits are over.
Also really hamstrung themselves these past few years with not allowing grad players
San Diego St apparently has a buyout clause on Nick Boyd that Wisconsin is trying to work through.
No idea if thats a thing but two year contracts and redshirt two year contracts for projects should be a thing
There is no way FSU has NIL of 1.8 mil or whatever trilly said with their roster
I read 3mil
They havent landed anyone like bonafide.
I have it on good authority that Tony Skinn interviewed at FSU and turned them down because the financial situation (his contract and NIL) was so bad (relative to an ACC school) that staying at Mason made more sense.
Jarin Stephenson is going to enter soon probably. Essentially got over recruited at both front court spots. Please god Odom dont fall for the bait
Or do! 6-10 guy who can bury threes. Odom aint saying no to that
For sure.
I selfishly hope not. But if stephenson did portal id imagine staff would go for it
Heās got the same issues heās had since he looked charmin soft for his AAU team, but 6-10 and can shoot, plus 2 years very high level experience. And still some residual chance he becomes more complete
I think thereās a good chance Stevenson becomes a good three-point shooterā¦heās comfortable out there. He takes a lot of them. But heās like 30%. Thatād be cool, just being a threat, if he were doing other things. Particularly on defense.
He had 19 points on 7-11 shooting in a close Elite Eight game as a true freshman. Heās played a bunch for two very good teams. His numbers arenāt great but theyāre not awful either. If he just steadily improves, heās still a useful player. Obviously he can be much more than that.
That said, not sure how interested heād be in us. He was a big Tony Bennett guy so the advantage we would have had is gone.
Eh, we are regional, at a program he knows, and we are not coached by Hubert Davis.
Heās the one Tony took a shrimp to the face for? Pass.
Iām a hard pass on Stevenson as well unless heās changed a lot over the last year. The motor just isnāt there. I donāt see how that meshes with what we understand Odomās philosophy to be. But thatās just me.
Thatās the only time Iāve ever seen a recruit post a highlight video of their entire visit. Seemed so odd.
