The London Johnson didn't announce on April 14th thread

I love how HGN tells us all we should still be considered the favorite and we’re all like, GONE!

Haven’t had a great feeling for awhile. He’s had a dozen opportunities to pull the trigger, and hasn’t. Don’t want to assume hope is lost, but if does go elsewhere, we missed out on months of recruiting other ‘23 PG’s.

Georgia with the 4D chess move, saving their $EC money on a big hire by hiring Mike White and instead investing it in their bagmen

He was considering reclassing to '22. He could be either. His choice. Recent chatter was he was staying in '23, but it was uncertain.

From bugging the ever living shit out of HGN theyve been contacting 23s (not heavily though). It’s not like blank slates this spring lol.

Good thing we spent all these months not recruiting other pgs

At this point “UVA still feels good about their chances” or something close to that feels like a polite way of saying “The staff is gonna finish 2nd place on this one too”. Not meaning this as a slight to you HGN as you’re just reporting what you hear, but this obviously will be a massive gut punch and it’ll be next to impossible to convince any UVA fans that a drawn out commitment is gonna go our way given how many times this has played out poorly.

And once again, being told that a kid has “committed to the staff but not announced” means absolutely nothing. Good thing to keep in mind.

Exactly, let’s get another Ty Jerome type of guy at 6’5, can shoot, and run an offense, and then you place him with a pesky player like Kihei, Morsell & Reece, alongside a shooter and a 3-man who can shoot: ie our 2019 championship team.

London Johnson was similar to Ty, except perhaps a bit more athletic and quick and thus was being courted not only by a North Carolina (Coby White scenario), but now with SEC money teams like Georgia, and a potential Final 4 team such as Alabama.

Just wait until Kihei formally announces his return and you have visions of next year’s starting 5 all returning to suck up 95% of the available minutes. Good times!

My big takeaway at this point even if London does ultimately end up at UVA

We should get used to this as these SEC teams continue to flex their football money

not that this is anything definitive but London’s followed accounts on Instagram tell a story for sure…

Yeah, this staff’s ability to close out high-profile recruitments feels a lot like our team’s ability to salt things away at the line this year - unclutch. We get commitments when things are quiet and decisions pop early. But when it’s clear a kid isn’t fully in love with us immediately, we seem to really struggle to close the deal for one reason or another.

Although maybe I’m being too harsh. Just a frustrating day.

Good point, *but will he start following any guys from Alabama and Georgia anytime soon?

Tony might be a nice guy but he’s also shown in the past that he’ll cut and run no matter who the recruit might be. What we can feel good about is that he is who he is and he’s not going to compromise his principles.

The bigger issue is that situations like this and where the college game is headed in general aren’t going away and they’re going to drive him out of the college game. If he’s still at UVa in 5 years I’ll be shocked.

My advice … enjoy him while we have him.

Anyone who is excited about that prospect should be committed. Not like it was a starting lineup made up of freshman who all might make a big leap. Kihei isn’t getting better. Reece will be hamstrung from reaching full potential until Kihei is gone. If Kihei is back, we once again have a small 3 in Armaan. And so on. And of course the freshmen + Taine at most will receive piecemeal minutes. Disaster.

Of course and we have been aware of that. But now there is this two week window to hear pitches

Postponing an announced commitment date to listen to other coaches is a way, way bigger deal then clicking “follow” or “unfollow” on social media.
