TJ Power Watch

Much like Gary Williams back at UMD. Eventually recruiting and not wanting to kiss arse led him to stepping aside, once his recruiting took a nose dive. Tony isn’t a live wire like Gary was back in the day, but let’s hope the recruiting game doesn’t sour Tony in the years to come.

Know nothing about Coleman… I think Keels is when I started following recruiting here and I didnt hate him for his mistake going to Duke and I didnt really care. This one is different. Has made himself the enemy

Damn, Fresh. You go way back.

IMO, this recruitment is like Juzang’s, and I’m still bitter about that one. Just substitute Kentucky for Duke and it played out identically. Watch him transfer close to home after his first year!

Maybe this debate has already been covered but don’t other non-blue bloods beat Duke occasionally in recruiting?

What prevents us from winning just one?

  • No NIL / Bags / Escalades
  • Slowest Pace
  • No fake promise of playing time
  • Other?

Can I answer all of the above?

I dont think the assumption behind the question is accurate.

The recruits Duke has lost out on

GG Jackson - to UNC who he grew up a diehard fan before going to South Carolina cause they offered him mad NIL and Duke was already full in 2022 at that time.

Kennedy Chandler - Chose Tennessee cause Duke had Jeremy Roach coming back and SEC money

Patrick Baldwin Jr - Chose his dad and also had concerns of being 2nd fiddle to Paolo Banchero who was already committed

Walker Kessler - UNC and Roy win out

These are literally the only 4 kids they have missed out on in the last 4 years LOL. There are a few studs they offered but never pursued (Like Max Christie. Duke pulled out and went all in on Keels/preferred Keels cause of course they did. Just to screw us).

Duke gets who they want. We could have all those “issues” listed as options fixed and we would have still lost this recruitment.

We did get Isaac traudt over Gonzaga Kansas and UNC. I do think its okay to be frustrated about TJ Power but also remember we just did EXTREMELY well in 2022. And 2022 is a factor about why 2023 is “rough” (two top 100 kids potentially imo aint but thats another debate we’ve already had).

Brands ingrained in our culture that have become ideas bigger than the actual product.

Gucci. Mercedes. Google. Apple. Louis Vutton. Duke.

If more dookies did this the world would be a much better place

It may not be. But you provided four examples so there’s some validity to it.

And inferring from the examples it seems like NIL/$$$ factor in two for beating Duke and you could argue playing time in one.

@SlickAce you know right? And this is nothing against Joey. Great dude who is doing Great in Life no thanks to anything Duke

Yeah money. But you have to figure Duke is throwing money too right? Or maybe Nike is doing it for them? Or do they assume Duke’s brand will make them money? idk.

I do know I hate Duke though

I mean if I’m duke and I have an open scholly why not go after Tony’s top recruit in that class. Everyone knows the type of evaluator he is :man_shrugging:t2:

May have been asked earlier, but would you as a fan take power if he transferred?

Exactly! TJ Power is good…but not elite for dook. He would be elite for us, so all dook needs to do is steallur best recruit and bench him for a couple of years until he transfers.

Genius. Protect Tony from himself. Instead of Tony benching our best recruits for two years, we let other teams do it for us so they can transfer TO us and not AWAY from us.
