Now Im thinking why the frick did Kennedy Chandler not go to Duke because of Jeremy Roach but Power is going to Duke with Mark Mitchell from 2022, MacKenzie McBago-whatever, and Sean Stewart.

How good is TJP gonna be? Can we answer that now that he won’t be playing here?
It is hilarious because TJP is exactly the type of recruit that sits the bench at Duke and doesn’t contribute at all until he transfers after 2 years.

Choosing evil here but the latest recruiting class has:
-
2 guys that are considered red shirts by coaching staff
-
1 guy that will maybe play minutes off the bench backing up a guy that shot 23% from three and a 5’6” point (shooting?) guard
-
1 guy recruited over immediately by a mediocre non-P5 5th year transfer
-
Last year’s freshman class saw less than 200 combined minutes.

Previous class redshirted two of their top recruits (both transferred)
Maybe there is still somehow more playing time for TJP at Duke.

I think the early returns are that McKneely and Traudt are going to contribute after this summer. And the 2022 class is miles ahead of the 2021 class in terms of athleticism and not having to adjust to US Ball. McKneely and Traudt also seem pretty bought in/it’s been a while since staff has shown this much optimism in a lot of the preseason chatter. Whereas in years past they were pretty blunt with how much we are going to struggle.
That and we aren’t returning just two players who had played actual minutes in a UVA jersey. And the summer trip also helps with team chemistry and development.

I remember the SI guy tweeting that all Caleb Foster wanted was a commitment from TJ Power. I said at the time that it was a done deal because their propaganda machine would never risk looking like they were actually in a battle for a recruit.
I was right.
Also, I’m sure Tony got a call saying that things had changed. I really, really don’t like TJ Power.

Yes. I’ll hate him everyday he is a Dukie. But if he enters the portal and we pursue I am going full on TJ to UVA mode again.

Seemed like fit factor was very much in our favor going into the H2H with duke…and we still lost out to a late offer to join a crowded class.
UVa just doesn’t win these battles even when the recruit appears tailor-made to break the cycle.
Next time, I’ll be reminding myself that:
Recruits (even the 19 year olds) are kids.
Kids like shiny objects.
duke is a shiny object andUVa isn’t.
Recruits will choose duke over UVa when presented the option.
I look forward to our guys making him miserable every time we play. Just hoping he gets some run this year; Papi can’t maul a face if it ain’t on the floor.

I think the question is if he transfers, that will likely mean he has barely played. How attractive will that be vs. other options. He’ll have shown that he couldn’t get on the floor in college.
