Win an ncaa tournament game he gets a 3 year contract. We miss the tournament = welcome Shaka Smart to UVA.
We make the tournament but lose first game but also finish top 3 in the acc and make the acc championship game = Reece-Kihei veterans will be called back to the front line of the forums
Kentucky reportedly balked at Otzās buyout. Iād love him, but I think it is a buyout at the level of āso big that no one ever pays itā a la Spanish soccer release clauses.
Ignoring Sanchezās time at Charlotte to make him the hire would be very stupid imo. We got to see him be the top guy and he did fine. We can and should do better.
Choosing successors is hard and not a natural skill set for a lot of successful leaders! Ask Bob Iger.
Weāve been talking about a 2 year trajectory to relevance this whole offseason so I have a hard time seeing them not give Sanchez 2 years so long as he doesnāt completely implode this year. I donāt know what that bar looks like but getting a new HC after this season with all that weād be set to return in 2025-26 would be rough. Youād be asking for a ton of roster turnover, right after getting back to the veteran roster youāve been wanting to (theoretically) build for years.
His time at Charlotte didnāt earn him a chance at the job. But given the timing, we need an interim coach, and he makes the most sense to Tony (and me, not that it matters). Conventional wisdom is he can coach his way into the job, but the requirements to earn it are up for debate.
And I donāt disagree with Jerome in that giving him a 2 year tryout makes the most sense. Tonyās timing is starting to make more sense.
When I saw the Goodman tweet, I assumed he was either ājokingā or had accidentally posted a draft tweet. Then I saw the other tweets confirming the news and have been depressed ever since.
His buyout for this year is a stupid amount of money for sure. But even finding that was incredibly difficult⦠Iām sure it like basically every other buyout goes down over time. And like embrace said theyāll pick a candidate without much concern for the price tag. Very few guys would truly be out of reach and the ones that are either coach at a blue blood or are named Calipari.
But also letās see what Ron can do over the course of the next 1-2 years.
The big question is are we going to see a bunch of roster turnover anyway. Thereāll be a big market for all the good guys on our roster, and they committed to Tony Bennett. Even if Sanchez does well thereāll be attrition, just no idea how much. I think the two-year window we were all talking about is blown apart now. Weāre in a new era - will have to see what happens.
I donāt think anyone is arguing that Sanchez shouldnāt be the interim. Weāre talking about taking the interim tag off instead of doing a full coaching search.
