I guess silver lining is we either do well enough to give Sanchez a chance to retain the core and have a really good roster for 2025-26 or he underwhelms and we can bring in a (hopefully) big fish.

Well, youāre hiring him because his familiarity with UVaās program and Tony thinks he will succeed. Charlotte was a sub 300 program when Sanchez took over and he made them respectable at least. But when all his best players kept leaving it was hard to build on that further
Frankly, I donāt want Carla hiring any more revenue coaches.

Money wonāt be an issue if/when we go to make this hire. PTJ has a legacy to preserve. Doesnāt mean Otz would jump but it wouldnāt be due to a lack of funds.
All of the things we say about lack of support for football do not apply for hoops.

I hear this, but also, we arenāt a minnow job. We won a national championship. We have one of the best arenas in the country. Other than him being Tonyās guy, weād never hire a guy who was sub-500 at Charlotte and probably about to get fired.
Iām totally open to Sanchez killing it. Itād be great if he does. But thereās nothing on his resume that justifies him being the guy for a program of this caliber other than Tony having faith in him. But Tony has generally had great eye for talent, so that does count for something.

Who would have been your guess for most likely to get leaked to? Eamonn Brennan doesnāt really do scoops, but it seems like heās got a good relationship with JWilly, has wrote about the program plenty. Norlander as generic alternative national guy who gets scoops?

Weāre not hiring him because of his time at Charlotte which is a completely different proposition. Tony likely sees him as his Matt Painter, Bo Ryan, Tom Izzo. Good news is Tony generally has sound judgment.
If heās just average weāll have to cut bait and look elsewhere. Good news is weāll be less likely to take a chance on the second guy and go after one of the proven commodities. Itās a crucial hire considering the conference changing landscape
Shaka or Otz, then maybe Golden or Wes Miller

At least with Tony - there are people on staff we can trust for this year at least for some continuity
