🏀 Tony Bennett Retires, Ron Sanchez to be Interim HC

I’m convinced Scheyer is a moron.

I always knew @haney was a closet Duke fan so his Scheyer love makes sense

Gonna be an unpopular take, but I’ve got no problem with what Scheyer said. He grew up in this enviornment, so he doesn’t need to adapt – it’s literally all he knows. That makes it easier. Honestly, it just sounds like common sense to me.

Plus, he was very complimentary of Tony.

Scheyer still sucks though.

I agree with that part of what you said! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I’ve listened to a lot of coaches’ statements on Tony’s retirement, and I hear sincere respect and admiration and sadness from them. From Scheyer I heard a guy trying to remember what he’s obligated to say, actually saying very little, and then taking the opportunity to plug himself.

All I heard him say is “my job just got that much easier”. The wry smile (@DFresh11 what IS wrong with his mouth?) when he first hears the question. Short sighted prick. The best of the best coaches are leaving. College game is a mess. Fuck him and fuck dook.

Best that weirdo could do was say Bummed like 4 times.

Weirdly enough, moving article from Chris Graham, of all people, on TB’s retirement.

And Chris takes on Forde:

Who is Forde?

Wow! That was brutal. At what point do these guys have to say, “let’s take it outside”.

I’m all for hating pat forde, whoever that is, but calling his daughter a “hack swimmer” because all she ever did was win an Olympic relay medal seems…not correct.

Welcome to the new reality where the truth (and decorum) are secondary to the number of “hits” you can get on-line. I wonder what Frank DeFord would have to say?

Yea but did she swim for Dragons UVa?

“She must not have been able to get into UVA, so she went to Stanford” is quite the feat of rhetoric.

Lets evaluate CTB’s support for Ron Sanchez as his replacement. What are the possible reasons behind it?

  1. Loyalty. No one has been alongside Tony on the bench longer.
  2. Continuity. Tony believes the packline and slow paced possesions are the best way to compete at UVA against the blue bloods. No one better at continuing this approach than his understudy.
  3. Qualifications. Tony honestly believes Ron has the knowledge, temperment, and leadership skills to be the best choice for the job.
  4. Ego. Tony wants “his guy” as a way of extending his legacy.
  5. Ron has compromising pics of Tony.

1 and 2 are likely. 3 is maybe (in Tony’s view). 4 and 5 no way not possible.

Most of the debate between fans is disagreement that 1 should be considered at all and 3 is far from accurate.

It’s a good post…but hasn’t Williford been with him for more seasons? I think. it’s close and may depend how you define alongside.

Sanchez had the 3? years as assistant at WSU under TB but was absent here for 5. Guess it depends if you count their time on Dick’s staff together, not sure how many years that was.

We have** two associate head coaches. Did anyone ask Tony or Carla why one was chosen and not the other? Would seem to be a reasonable question. I can guess what they’d say, but am curious to hear what was actually said.

Only one has HC experience. JWilly has turned down opportunties in the past to leave UVA and get HC experience. I can’t see him feeling he has been passed over.
