Yes. He told Norlander in April that he was thinking about retiring. Read his piece on Bennettās news conference and the later-that-day 1x1 between the two.
Would be wild and probably unprecedented if March rolled around and Williams/boosters decided that Sanchez wasnāt the guy, but JWilly was going to be the hire instead.
All i saw from Zach is that TB asked Carla to ensure Jay would be the next coach. She said no. Ron comes back. TB leaves and Carla makes Ron the interim
TB would give no such details
Easier for her to fire Ron than an alum. Sheās desperate to get to make her hire.
No way heās making it up. Youāre too cynical for a Gen Xer.
Anyway, Norlanderās not a groupieā¦
Not cynical at all i just know the story some
I said i am naive and gullible but dont know what cynical means. That like surly?
@DFresh11 on the pod, Norlander seemed to imply that the second part of that tweet (Tony asked for J-Willy to be be coach in waiting) was old reporting, not from that convo.
You donāt have to believe it, but Norlander says Tony told him this around the 16 minute mark here.
Never mind. Iām wrong. Hereās the transcript:
āYeah, again, I find Tony to be about as stand up of a guy in the profession and as honest of a guy. And he even said, and then Ron said the same thing when I talked to him before practice. He would just want to, he hoped it would be Ron or Jason Williford.
He even told me, I donāt think this is in the story, but Tony tried to get Jason, the head coach and waiting tag, like four or five years ago, but the athletic director, Carla Williams, wouldnāt make that move. Ultimately, it was Carlaās decision and she even made it without necessarily like Tonyās retiring, wasnāt necessarily his approval. He was hopeful it would be either one of those, now Ron gets it.ā

Implying is interesting
Slightly more eloquent than āI was bummed.ā
Me trying to make it through that wall of text with the font and layout choices:
Did your lawyer @AnonymooseHoo advise you on including this?
Nothing on this board shall be considered to constitute legal advice
Oh, sure, of course
Itās an interesting dilemma in a way for ACC coaches. Theyāre probably glad on the one hand to have a better chance at conference championships.
On the other hand, itās clear that the conference needs all the help it can get to stay relevant nationally.
Can someone do me a solid an give me the 1-2 sentence āTides Innā explanation? Trying to find the origin on the past 4-6 days of posts, but itās like randomly sifting through reviews of Schindlers List - just too depressing
Itās where Tony and Laurel went away for Fall break
He and his wife were at the Tides Inn when he made the decision to retire.
