🏀 Tony Bennett Retires, Ron Sanchez to be Interim HC

It’s only 15 minutes and it’s a zoom call. Very informal I think.

I’m sure we’ll get a transcript.

Thanks. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Some journalists are live-tweeting, but it’s pretty much just coach-speak quotes. You’ll be pleased to know that Ron is still talking about space though:

I thought this too, but I think Anthony is KG’s kid’s middle name and then his last name happens to match Tony’s middle name.

The spaces between the pillars.

“Our personnel - really trying to take our really talented offensive players and putting them in positions to be really successful, I think, is key. We still have so many new players here that they’re learning our defensive system, and I think trying to be one of the better teams defensively in this conference is key to any success that this team is going to have. But from that standpoint, anything else is really, really different. We have different personnel, and we have to play in a different way. I think that’s probably the biggest difference between the two.”

Be different Ron! Go your own way!

In reference to how things would be different from Charlotte

I also heard last week that his mom was just named the President of CCV, which could be convenient for fundraising. They also belong (or at least used to belong) to Farmington.

Back to our regularly scheduled Dave Matthews programming.

That would be a very “on brand” demographic for UVA to mine even more than I’m sure they already do.

KG says he’s a “year by year” kind of person and that he’s all in on this position “this year”, “especially now.”

The big revelation is that Sanchez’ dream was to be an astronaut…. Couldn’t fulfill it but still talks about space a bunch.

Will Ron wear a tie on game days? That’s the question

I don’t follow the NBA thing very closely so the Hardy piece is interesting

Yeah, that’s a real “eye of the beholder” moment in the interview for me.

I think the pessimists on the board will say Kyle is pissed and already looking elsewhere.

I think the optimists on the board will say Kyle sees there is opportunity to carve out a bigger role here.

Reality is probably somewhere in the middle. Also, you can’t say much about '25-'26 at the moment because there is so much uncertainty in the future.

Could always get the itch to go hoop again too. He is young

Kyle is a young guy whose entire professional context has been year by year. And year by year is pretty typical for any young GA type.
