I think we might contact just about everyone even remotely decent in the portal and anyone we contact mentions us as a school that contacted him. Our name will be everywhere.

yep and UVA’s going to get mentioned a lot. Right now it’s a couple assistants watching the portal and reaching out to anything remotely interesting or sometimes just people they have contacts around. A lot more already than has been reported. There won’t be any serious attention until the games are done. Biggest thing to watch right now is the types of players they’re being connected with more than the specific names.

Looks like UVa has been mentioned with a ton of guards but only Mitchell as of now for bigs. Do you think that says anything as far as their intention to pursue Mitchell? Or is it way too early to read into the big man spot they are looking to fill?

I haven’t seen any list with Mitchell yet. They were tied with Greg Gantt.

Completely forgot about Gantt. I thought I saw UVa mentioned with Mitchell but it must be wishful thinking. Seems like a good fit for what is needed.

Gantt’s not a guard, and we also reportedly reached out to LaRavia, who has already committed to Wake.
Of course, as HGN said, these “reach outs” may mean absolutely nothing. We also need to see who on our team enters the portal when we’re done playing, as that might change our needs.
And based on what we’re seeing across the country it’s pretty much a lock that we’ll have some guys move on.

Yeah I would definitely expect 2-3, maybe 4 transfers. Nothing too heavily to base this on but thinking back to Reuter, Thompson, Shayok all leaving and also Tony’s first class. And those were without both the additional free year and immediate eligibility and players’ being vocal about their empowerment.
Three or four would be genuinely surprising

Normally, I would agree. However, this year could be different even for us. If the NCAA maintains the current transfer rules, poaching and tampering will become the new major issue in collegiate athletics! Starters will leave for greener pastures! Or so, they think!

It wouldn’t shock me to see more names in the portal than players that actually leave. I think there’s going to be a lot of players entering simply to fully evaluate their options even if they elect to stay with their current school.

It’s going to be an interesting spring for sure. The rule they’re adopting has been there in most other sports for years. Most (if not all) of those transfer rates have stayed below the non-athlete transfer rate. Of course the big difference in football, men’s and women’s basketball, hockey, and baseball is the amount of money around the sport. How will that change things?
