Lurking on the UCLA boards and found this on one them called BruinGold dot com basketball forum. Looks like Cronin had a dinner with Perry and told him something that made him switch his mind. Maybe at some fancy beverly hills hotspot with some promise of PT and more dollars? Also looks like his best friend is former laker Robert Horry’s son who is walking on with them.

Add it to the list of heartbreaks on the high profile recruiting trail. Hopefully we’ll see a PF commit soon. I’d like to sure up the front court. Not sure who we are chasing as a guard with a high 3pt %.
What a bummer, he was the one I wanted most this offseason. Oh well, things happen for a reason. Hopefully we can still add a couple quality players. Unless there is something more to the Bliss injury recovery, at this point just ride with Bliss, Gertrude, IMac, and I guess Warley in there as well. Take some lumps next year, then go with that 3 some in 25-26 and hopefully a solid frontcourt of Coffee, BB, Arob and maybe add a piece. Will be weird going into next year with very little expectation.

I think it’s simple. Guys are less likely to want to commit here and more likely to try to find another option. In the past, we were the most desirable option unless Duke or a few other blue bloods were involved. The staff signaled their confidence about how well everything went and then we almost always got our guy. But now the staff is getting more lip service from these same types of recruits and we’re losing them for a variety of different reasons. The underlying constant is that our offer isn’t as appealing as it was 2 or more years ago (or even a year ago)

We were? For whom? Please give me a list of all the McDonald’s All-Americans or Top 40 recruits that came here in the past. Heck, throw in the transfers, too. The only one I can think of is Kyle Guy. We’ve picked up a lot of good four-star players who were ranked somewhere in the back half of the Top 100 – and who turned out to be terrific players – but we haven’t been the most desirable option for the top tier since Terry Holland painted “Ralph’s House” on U-Hall.
