Transfer wish list 2022-2023

Lol barely any. It’s mostly spent trying to manifest offers to Ty Davis and Shaedon Simpson (which will probably never come). It’s hard to get too into transfer recruiting until I see who is actually available. Right now it’s just scanning through the best pgs with assist to turnover ratios, going through and finding the ones who 1) are in a situation where they may transfer (shit team, mid major move up) and 2) 3pt shooting about 36% from 3 on decent volume.

Well i will say i really like Davis and Simpson from what I’ve seen here. I don’t understand why they aren’t drawing more attention.

Probably because of consistency but also because no one cares about high school recruiting anymore in the age of the portal. And rosters change on the spot so you don’t even know your needs until the spring.

Sad but true…in the VIP I jokingly made a comment on our top 2024 guard knowing damn well that any offer now won’t be anyone we get and that our real target won’t be known around spring time…

Yet UNC has 4 commits for 24 class already.

Carolina sucks.

3 but it feels like more than that Ill give ya that lol. And it was just Hubert flexing that UNC brand to get momentum with landing top recruits at each position and a kid (Drake Powell) who grew up a UNC fan and his mom is related to Hubert Davis too (like 2nd cousins I believe).

Tyler Kolek from George Mason was one of the first, if not the first, transfers last off season to mention UVA showing interest. Kid has been balling out at Marquette. 7.5 assists to 2.4 turnovers and 36% from 3.

More likely to go pro than enter the portal.

Not pursuing him was so so so dumb at the time and somehow it looks worse now

I think he’s the type of player who wouldn’t be where he is now if he didnt go midmajor. Some kids become better pro prospects by that mid major playing right away opportunity that isn’t always present at power 6 schools. Of course many also benefit from being developed and coming in slowly.

But yeah if a kid wants to be a hoo and they are 6’6 to 6’10 with long arms, some bounce (doesnt have to be major), and any semblance of a jump shot they need to be a hoo. The rest can be developed in taught. Of course you want them to have some sort of edge to them, and I think that was the hang up with DaRon?

It’s also hindsight and Kadin’s plus-minus (no matter how frustrating he can be at times) is still pretty solid. Dont think DaRon would have florished being a depth piece.

But if Daron was getting all of BVP and some Gardner minutes?

He wouldn’t. He’s a 5.

Kaufman was the bigger miss.

I know everyone was bummed when Keels didn’t pick UVA. But I always thought the biggest miss in 2021 was Kaufman. Versatile forward this team is missing now. The good news is I think Dunn will be that player this time next season.

Well Dunn has ALOT of offensive skills to work on before we can deem him reliable (no hate). But also we can no longer afford to have gaps between Dunn type of players. Atleast every two years we NEED to have these guys on the team that will stay for a while. Even if they are 3-stars, they hopefullly will stay and develop, however I worry that they may transfer if they get bored with our system/waiting.

@Hooandtrue
Any UT players on your list?

Rowan Brumbaugh looks like the only one who even fits the profile. DC kid (per the internet) who prepped up in Mass. Top 100 guard. @Hooandtrue will know what’s up with him.

The other guys are either 5th years or likely off to the draft (Tyrese Hunter, Dillon Mitchell). Disu still has a 5th year, I guess. Fits the physical mold of Atkins/Mitchell, but I haven’t seen him play.

If a 6 4 PG who learned Beard’s system wants to come be a hoo, I would be all over it (and who has 4 years of eligibility)

Holmes is listed as a 4 and is shooting 43% from 3 this year on low volume
