Good luck. Sounds like you might be going into my field.
Itās close to pre 9/11 in Gulfport now. Went to visit friends just after the New Year for a few days, and didnāt have a bag to checkā¦10 minutes from the time I walked through the airport front door until Iām standing at the gate.
Man some of those small airports are great. Flew into Springfield IL last summer, it was me and a pilot and I swear they didnāt know what to do with TSA precheck so I just walked through. Baton Rouge airport is similar.
On the flipside Iām always annoyed by Charlottesville airport for some reason.
Great bar in Cville airport though. CLs are cold cold
I actually really like the Richmond airport, as long as youāre not trying to eat or spend hours there. Not nearly as big as Dulles, easier to get in/out of than Reagan, parking has always been a breeze, and never had any major delays with security.
Totally agree. When I still lived in Va Richmond was my preferred airport for that exact reason. The parking is cheap and it can get to you just about everywhere.
@DFresh11 the best part of the Cville airport is the 24 oz Bold Rock Ciders on a Sunday morning. Gamechanger.
Richmond airport is one of my favorite Chilis ever. Best one is Louisville though
There were a couple of times when I was still active duty that I had meetings at Ft. Eustis (Newport News) and Langley (Hampton) and I flew into Richmond instead of Norfolk, to avoid the tunnels, and itās just straight 64.
A cold Bold Rock at the tasting room ontop of Carter Mountain, looking down at Cville hits like
Thatās a pro call. I now drive into Springfield IL from OHare for that exact same reason. I hate Ohare airport and itās a 5 hour layover from there to Springfield coming from ATL
The only redeeming quality of OāHare is that the Frontera restaurant there has probably the best airport food Iāve had in the US.
If we are talking about airports⦠I went through Newark two weeks ago⦠and there were no chain restaurants in the terminal I was in⦠except Starbucks. It was really weird.
And you didnt call Fresh??
I hate Newark airport. Was going on Tour with a team in 08 and we had a layover in Newark and ended up missing our flights and then got stuck there overnight. Eventually had to get a fleet of cabs to take us up to LaGuardia to fly out. But the crackpot staff at Newark still managed to send all our bags ahead of us on our intended flight. So 30+ random bags flew unoccupied to Ireland and spent a day hanging out at baggage claim
I would have if I had been there longer than 2 hours.
Oh, wow, such a different world. When I was in consulting I lived in downtown Manhattan and would fly to client sites early Monday mornings. One time I overslept and left late (was still like 5am) and paid the taxi driver to floor it. 40 minutes after I walked out my door, my flight left LaGuardia, and I was on it.
Also, earlier, I lived in Portland, Maine and was connecting through Boston while flying home from something. Iād checked in and chatted with the cute gate-girl a bit. Turns out I was the only person getting on the connecting flight.
Half an hour later, over the speaker they announce āSilas, your flight is here. Come to gate B5.ā Lol. Ah, to be young and in good shape again.
Used to work for an airline, so Iāve been fortunate to get out to Hawaii a few times. I also live in AZ so flights were always direct. Vacation days were my hurdle, so my wife and I would focus on one island each time.
May be helpful to consider this approach; every island is different and youāll probably have preferences (I prefer Maui and Kauai). Focusing on one or two islands might be more memorable and restorative.
Honestly though, you really canāt go wrong. By day three, youāll trade your kingdom for a dry towel (and red eyes home stink), but the rest is all great.
Pro tip: book a resort (at least on your last night) with a complimentary check out suite. Flying home showered and changed on your last day is priceless.
I love Topsail. Is there still a Wahoo Willieās off 17 on the way there from Wilmington? We havenāt been since the pandemic (the last few years have opted for Holden Beach where my buddy has a house)
