In other words do you want to show off your talent or do you want to become a better ball player
I suspect itās an easier argument to make for bigs too. Not everyone wants to be a blocker in our mover-blocker offense
We have been running less mover blocker for 3 years running now. Expect the same next year with influx of offensive talent.
Name to put in the memory bank. They may or may not get around to considering PGs in '21 now, but this one theyāve been in contact with for a while. Heās starting to pile up the high major offers lately. His high school coach is Tony Bennettās cousin.
Im starting tu like a few posters and Norfolk Hoo is one of them. In MY opinion he keep it real and donāt wear his orange and blue glasses during discussions. Im going tu hit you up fam. I like your style. LOL
Damn I forgot tu say why. Teams do attack our style and offense. Its becoming harder tu do now because we did MODIFY our offense. But it is still being used and still a great tactic by other teams.
Thanks Tu I always appreciate your insight on the board. You say a lot of things that most people wonāt
I
Tuās been on team modify for a long time.
i was with him, more than just for the recruiting. The changes helped a lot. Iāve always said they wouldnāt have gotten Jabri if he watched a blocker/mover team in the NCAAT but weāll never know. Yeah itās still an issue though. Pace etc. Just not nearly as much as in the past.
Harder to attack us for style of play after winning national championship. Will be interesting next year to watch the offense with more weapons. From recruit quotes, CTB is having some success pushing their development as complete player as prep for NBA.
This kid has intrigued me for a while.
Wonder if that call was before or after they got Trey Murphy to commit. They would kind of occupy a similar role, right?
My own completely uninformed thoughts have been that Sochan could take the third slot in our '21 class, red shirt as some of our other players from overseas have, play with Murphy for one year in '22 and then take over that 3/4 role. But his game might be sufficiently developed that he wonāt want to redshirt. Other than that issue though, he seems like a good UVA fit should we offer. At least in interviews he has said academics are pretty important to him and we have quite a bit of an international culture on the team at this point.
I went ahead and included Sochan in the original post. Thereās really more smoke with him than some of the others on there. Just no offer yet.
Jeremy Sochan 6ā8 SF from La Lumiere (IN) Ranked #72
No offer, hasnāt visited. Favorite: None
Basics: Sochan has a complicated background. American born to Polish parents, moved to the UK at a young age. He played for the Polish National Team, and turned college heads at the Euro Championships last summer. This is was his first year playing in the US. Virginia assistants have been to see him play several times. Heās taken unofficial visits to Michigan State, Marquette, and DePaul. Offers from Florida State, Vanderbilt, Geogetown and a few others.
Details: His recruitment hasnāt really started yet. Everyone was waiting to see him play against top competition in AAU, which likely wonāt happen now. Heās back home in Europe for the summer. So this probably isnāt going to move forward in any meaningful way for a while. Virginia has been in contact with him as long or longer than any other major program.
I was lurking on the Duke basketball board and I saw that they were a quick conversation about how Trevor Keels and Max Christie could co-exist with each other. I know we would be very lucky to get either, let alone both but could they co-exist here? Trevor as an Brogdon/elite Devon Hall type and Christie as a Small Forward? Can you imagine if an extra scholarship opens up and we get a 2021 class of Keels, Reid, and two of Holmes, Kaufman, Christie, or Sochan? Thinking about such can only set me up for epic failure (my expectations, not the recruits we do get being failures cause ultimately they will be the ones who want to be Hoos and coached up by Bennett to be the next group of players I love), especially when there is a high chance one of the 2021 class is someone we donāt even know about⦠or maybe that changes this year without AAU to eval and have players come out of nowhere?
I know us dinosaurs think these top kids number one priority is winning a chip. But its not. The reason kids will be attracted tu TB is because he is a great YOUNG coach. He is GREAT at developing players. He help guys become pro"s. He is a GREAT man and a man of principle. He wonāt BS you and he will always treat his players with respect. Our chip and offense is not on top of their list.
I agree Tu. Our number one goal is a natty. Most of the kids number one goal is to go pro
A couple other guards weāve heard about before
Jalen Warley mentions UVA here. First time heās done that Iāve seen. Coach Bennett stopped by his practice on one of those bye week trips.
Lucas Taylor visited toward the end of the season, Duke game I think. Vanderbilt offered him over the weekend, his first high major. Another brief mention, says heās talked to Bennett recently.

I heard Duke have slowed down on Max Christie and have others as their top wing priority. I also heard we are looking much better with Max than many think and we are a top option. Max continue tu talk glowingly about UVA and we are high on his list. Trevor is aware of Max interest but it wonāt push him tu do anything. The same schools that are going for Max are the same ones going for Trevor.
By the way one of my favorites is Jordan Hawkins. Keep an eye out.
Just checked out his highlights. Something about his game reminds be of Jamal Crawford. Not sure if thatās a good comp at all, but heās got some nice skills.
