This is where the Neckel stat is telling - for once! No other season with more than 2 blowouts. And 6 this year.
If thatās because of Tonyās tendencies well youād expect it to have happened more often in past years. But this season is an anomaly in two ways: the frequency and intensity of blowout losses and the lack of minutes and scoring we brought back this season compared to others. We have no foundation of core guys around for 2+ years. Itās just Reece. And to boot, we are young overall.
We lose these blowouts by 5-10 points and the conversation is totally different. So why the blowouts instead of 5-10 point losses?
I generally agree with the GM critiques, mostly in the realm of setting these guys up to withstand the psychological stuff. That can be Xs and Os too (eg this lineup wonāt spiral). But also more nebulous and hard to pin down than just that. Roster construction on front end, yes. System, sets, cultural stuff. some weird potion of all of it where you can help these guys not spiral in tough environments.
On that front we havenāt done a great job, but I also think the challenge has been more acute and significant than is assumed.
For me, I was just expecting more of a jump from iMac this year. I guess I donāt know what I was expecting, but just moreā¦I think you guys get what Iām saying.
I mean I had high hopes for Isaac because there were people with inside info hyping him up and because of the sophomore years Ty, Kyle, and Malcolm put up. That being said, heās scoring 12 PPG as a sophomore with one other option on the team. Thatās damn good if you take it on its own merritt without comparing him to past greats. Shouldnāt be upset with a guy because he makes a significant freshman-sophomore improvement rather than a tremendous freshman-sophomore jump
I did too but also wasnāt expecting him to be the #1 focus of every opposing defense. His %s are impressive but needs to get up way more shots and be more of a threat off the dribble
Yeah getting blown out sucks. Feels like a lack of effort. Iām a huge CTB guy but he is stubborn AF. Itās generally served him well. This year not so much.
Ty and Kyle were mutually beneficial because they could space the floor for each other. They also played with RS freshman Dre who was a stud and had Jack MFing Salt setting screens. And imagine swapping out The Rohde/Harris cluster f with Devon Hall
Thatās the reason it would be an amazing comeback if we did great next year. Iām not too confident about next year unless we can find a great replacement point guard. Or the 2019 thing where we have two shooting guards who can play the role of a point guard. McKneely could definitely be a Guy type if his handling and passing improve.
Our program has heartā¦the coaching staff will get us goingā¦the players werenāt ready to deal with Cameronā¦.this team will not have to deal with that againā¦.i think we will be pissed
At this point Iād be more surprised if Dunn and Beekman werenāt back⦠Is Beekman going to get drafted? Will Dunn still be in the first round? I think Beekman is more pro ready, heās getting shafted not showing on draft boards. And, itās crazy, Dunn is still a first rounder on most.
I looked at this roster prior to the season, and I didnāt see a NCAA tourney team. The only reason I gave them any chance to make the tourney was because of Tony.
too many new faces. Tony always does better with teams where the majority of key players have played together for a season.
no real āscorers.ā This is worse than I expected. I assumed Dunn would have made some progress on offense and that Rohde would provide a little offense. I wasnāt as high on Rohde as some were, but I thought he would be better than he is.
the hole in the middle. It was worse then I expected, then it seemed to have been shored up when Minorās light came on, but it just isnāt enough.
We just donāt have the right horses. We cannot seem to find guys who can score when the going gets tough.
