Fair but Dante has been awful all year… being good relative today (not even sure I agree) when everyone played like butt means nothing

This SHOULD be the impetus for a change in philosophy, honestly even more drastic than what we did 10-11 games ago by simplifying things for the newer players. TBD on whether that actually happens but this isn’t just schemes, it’s a mentality issue. Will hammer this home for the millionth time, operating in the mid range as much as we do is antiquated and inefficient, somebody needs to be in Tony’s ear telling him to modernize what he wants out of his offense, because at some point games like this happen where you’re not gonna be able to win a rock fight shooting under 40%.

Rough one to take in especially because it was those fuckers beating us on their home floor for the 3rd or 4th consecutive year and this time they embarrassed us. Just not much to say that’s constructive, we better get things straight or it’ll happen again at JPJ this weekend when UNC comes to town.

5-7 from the FT line tonight. Turning the corner.

Ha.

This is such do-something-ism. Timeouts don’t change the flow of a game. Show me the data that they do. (They seem like they do because of the faulty ways in which our memories work.)

Tony did try some things throughout the game (5 at a time subs, bringing in two guys who hadn’t played in weeks including one in the first half, etc), and none of it worked. The team layed an egg. It wasn’t because Tony didn’t try or didn’t call enough timeouts. He didn’t call timeouts in 2019 during runs against us either.

Agreed! I think Dante is really bad! And Eli has been even worse against worse competition. It’s all not very good. Just hope our ‘best players’ step up. Our big three were embarrassing tonight against our rival

I think it’s a conclusion many come to after seeing little change or innovation.

Maybe it’s not a staff full of yes men, but it’s reasonable to want to see innovation, especially when the last four years have been (far) below the standard set from 2014-2019.

I dont think venting frustrations is too insane. We got OBLITERATED by our instate rival who is not very good this year. Almost lost by 40 while barely scoring over 40.

I dont think we appreciate how bad a loss this is outside of just a bad night.

I do hope the blowout loss and the week of prep before UNC forces Tony to approach the gameplan drastically different.

Last week alone, Kansas lost to TT by 29 and SC lost to Auburn by 40. Both those teams are ranked way ahead of us. Teams being awful on the road has been a common theme this season

Texas Tech and Auburn are WAY better than Virginia Tech though.

Eli has barely played with starters. That means TB doesn’t trust him which is a data point against him I agree…but keeping to run out Dante when there are no positives to his game is the definition of insanity to me

After watching that … don’t know if I should be upset we played that way or amazed that Tony has gotten this much of of this group.

I went back and looked. It was one starter (Collins) and 4 of their lowest 6 in minutes played. That’s 80% third team. It was another third team guy that blocked the shit out of another one of “those Eli lay ups.”

Fact is the previous game like this had nothing to do with Buzz or Young. Or Tony Bennett. And we had a guy with his jersey hanging in the rafters on the team. It’s embarrassing for a rivalry game. Especially one where you are supposed to be big brother. Just should not happen

We’re not gonna be favored at BC …

Tennessee 2013 — 87-52.

So, yes, we have.

Washington beat us worse than even that a few years before in Seattle — 106-63.

I definitely thought both of those thoughts repeatedly. This team is 11-5? CTB is a wizard.

And also, yes ACC apologists, the metrics are right and the ACC sucks. We just wouldn’t be 11-5 in the Big 12.

That’s cute you think we’ll be favored at BC.

That’s true but Kansas and SC are way better then us

Sorry, not trying to argue.

But I think many teams during an offensive drought will call a timeout to draw up a play for a bucket. We went 9 minutes without a bucket which is really when the game got away for us. Should have tried to draw something up for iMac, Groves or even something at the rim.

I disagree. We’ll see though. Probably should be
