@ FSU:
Biggest week of the season to date. Got a rematch with Liberty who beat us a couple weeks ago, and then an absolutely pivotal road series against the #7 Noles. Win this series, we can really make strides towards getting our season back on track. Lose this series or god forbid get swept, it’s gonna be a major uphill battle for us to make the tourney.
It will be very, very hard to win that series. You can count the game against Arnold as an L right off the bat. I don’t trust for a second we’ll get the bats going against him.
FSU has one of the better weekend rotations in the country and Arnold is the headliner of that, will probably be a top 10 pick in this year’s draft. But he’s not unbeatable, a mediocre Miami offense lit him up for seven runs a couple weeks ago in Coral Gables.
Important thing is we really need strong starts from our rotation, especially with this being a shorter week. Having that Tuesday-Thursday turnaround can be brutal on bullpens.
Don’t know if anyone is going to the FSU series but I’ll be there from Friday-Sunday with my family. Send me a dm if you are around and I’ll buy you a beer.
Heads up hav, it’s Thursday - Saturday with Easter coming up…
I know. Kids and I are heading up Friday morning and doing Easter weekend up there. Will miss the Thursday game though.
Missed the start of this one, but Liberty leads 3-2 in the top of the 3rd.
Sounds like there was a collision in the 1st inning between a Liberty player and Chris Arroyo that resulted in Arroyo having to exit the game.
Pitching for us is a roller coaster right now. Bats are good but we’re playing from behind again.
As I said that dude for liberty hits grand slam.
First hit of the season too. Wind took that one
Make that 7-2 Liberty in the top of the 3rd, grand slam.
I’m about ready to check out on the season this team just doesn’t have it. Hard to recover when every element of your team is inconsistent
8-2 Liberty in the top of the 4th on a two out RBI single.
Make that 9-2 Liberty on another RBI base hit. Bullpen.
@UVApride7 is this more of injuries and transferring out or pitching coach? Both? I’m lost on the pitching personnel.
At this point I think the blame has to be primarily on the pitching coach, but you could weigh between those factors differently.
Injuries have hurt quite a bit, losing Augustin and Kirk for the season was rough and not having Moore right now has also not been ideal. We didn’t have Jaxel for multiple weeks until his start tonight, didn’t have Blanco for the start of the season and he just hasn’t really looked the same as last year, and we’re just now getting Hodges up to speed enough for him to enter the weekend rotation. Those things do add up.
Transfers out haven’t really been that much of an issue, I know Hungate would have been nice to have on this team but honestly he’s not a shut down arm or some huge loss that changes the outlook of a pitching staff. Same for McKay who I believe is injured right now anyway, those are guys that ideally you should be able to replace in the portal so long as your evaluations are good. We honestly get hurt more by the draft than transfers, if we had Bryce Meccage and Trey Gregory-Alford on this roster things would probably be much different but you also have to account for some attrition via your HS class when you recruit at the level that we do. Summer blow ups happen and it’s up to the staff to plan ahead and around them.
At the end of the day though it comes down to DD. He’s bringing in these pitchers who haven’t really developed year over year, and he’s evaluating these transfers in who haven’t really panned out for us. It’s also on him for why we’re throwing certain pitches when we are, giving up two strike hits because we’re catching too much of the plate or letting hitters back into counts because we haven’t developed our offspeed pitches enough to get consistent swings and misses.
I don’t think anyone would complain about our results under him from 2021-2023 outside of a few factors that kept those pitching staffs from being truly elite, generally speaking those were very good seasons for us on the mound. But the last two years have definitely created reason for concern, if it weren’t for our postseason run last year I really think Dickinson would be on the chopping block right now and he very well may still be if things don’t turn around.
Sorry for the long winded response lol.
Hoos are down 9-2 in the bottom of the 8th. Really, really disappointing effort so far and we only got six more outs to fix it.
10-2 Liberty in the top of the 9th on an RBI double.
