Pitching is SUS this year. Hitting is all over the place and we’re still ranked top 25.

We have a leadoff hitter with 18 strikeouts….

Not trying to second-guess a HOFer and national champ, but something clicked in the 9th last Saturday that continued to click on Sunday. And that was Hanson and Didawick on the pine. There’s nothing better than getting your leadoff man aboard and not being able to move him because of incompetence from our senior statesmen.

Not sure why we didn’t stick with it.

Am not too worried about the pitching…yet. Much more worried about the defense.

There’s definitely some things from last season with regards to our pitching that have unfortunately reared their heads once again, and I’ll be looking to see if those trends continue. But honestly up to this point in the season we’ve tried out 18 different arms on the mound, and realistically we only need around half of those guys to actually be effective down the stretch. Will wait to see how things shake out when we inevitably shrink the bullpen.

Bottom of the 4th, Peacock still on the mound for Richmond. Teel leads off for the HOOS.

  • Ford on the next pitch hits a hard grounder to short. Larson lays out to field it and makes the throw to first in time for the out. Two down for Arroyo.
  • Arroyo K’s swinging to end the inning.

Heading into the 5th, Richmond leads 5-0. This pitcher has a mid 80’s FB with arm side run coupled with a low 70’s looping curveball, and we’re making him look like prime Greg Maddux.

Top of the 5th, Jaxel still on the mound for the HOOS. Pacheco leads off for Richmond.

  • Pacheco on 1-2 lifts a solo HR into the LF seats. 6-0 Richmond. Nobody on and no outs for Elko.
  • Elko on a full count flies out to Didawick in LF a couple steps in front of the warning track. One down for Larson.
  • Larson on the next pitch flies out to Buchanan in RF. Two down for Palmeri.
  • Palmeri on the next pitch flies out to Didawick deep down the LF line to end the frame.

Middle of the 5th, Richmond now leads 6-0.

After the HR they are all swinging for the fence

Honestly that’s the scouting report on Jaxel. He likes to get ahead in counts so attack him early.

  • Mound visit for Richmond. Pitching change incoming. RHP Chayse Gruber takes over on the mound for the Spiders.

  • Arroyo lines a base hit the other way into LF. Two on and one down now for Godbout.
  • Godbout K’s looking at a pitch that was low. Two on and two down for Buchanan.

  • Ference lines one to RCF but it hangs up long enough for Whitley to make the catch on the run. That ends the inning.

Lets not wait until the 8th or 9th inning to have an offense.

Richmond is 2-7, 2 BBs, and 4 RBI with two outs.

Hoos are 0-5 with a walk.

Now 1-7 with a walk and RBI. Better that inning but still left two on.

Oh blue, no

Yeah that was terrible, zero consistency from this ump tonight. Strikes are high until they aren’t, strikes are low until they aren’t until they are again. No clue back there.

Top of the 8th, Osinski still on the mound for the HOOS. James Nunnallee takes over in LF for Didawick, also replacing Chone James in the lineup. Palmeri leads off for Richmond.

  • Palmeri flies out to Teel in RCF. One down for Dosenbach.
  • Dosenbach grounds out to Godbout at 2nd. Took a weird bounce but Henry was able to handle it. Two down for Whitley.
