Top of the 9th, Osinski still on the mound. Asking a lot of him again. Jaffe leads off for Richmond.
Jaffe hits a tapper back to Osinski that he fields and tosses over to 1st for the out. One down for Arcamone.
Mound visit for UVA, BOC out for a chat. Pitching change incoming. LHP Matthew Buchanan takes over on the mound for the HOOS.
Arcamone walks. Buchanan had two straight pitches cut right over the heart of the plate and ump didn’t flinch on either of them. One on and one down for O’Brien.
Another mound visit for UVA. BOC out for a chat. Another pitching change incoming. RHP Drew Koenen takes over on the mound for the HOOS.
O’Brien pops out to Godbout in shallow RCF. One on and two down for Pacheco.
Pacheco K’s (1) swinging to end the frame.
Middle of the 9th, Richmond leads 6-2. Can we rally.
Yeah like I said earlier in the thread, Richmond is no slouch this year. Very much looking like a tournament team. Still disappointed in our performance though.
Bottom of the 9th, Smith still on the mound for Richmond. Ference leads off for the HOOS.
Ference bloops a single into CF. One on and nobody down for Nunnallee.
Nunnallee hits a slow bouncer to short. Larson is able to toss over to 2nd for the force out but that’s it. One on and one down for Hanson.
Hanson on a full count works a walk after a lengthy AB. Two on and one down for Becker.
Mound visit for Richmond.
KMac wants a chat with Becker after he falls behind in the count 0-2. Eric’s had a couple rough AB’s in this one.
Becker K’s looking at a pitch up in the zone. Two on and two down for Teel.
Another mound visit for Richmond. Pitching change incoming. LHP Kellan Heney takes over on the mound for the Spiders.
Teel lays a surprise bunt down the left side of the infield. Smith fields it but his throw to 1st is low and not in time. Bases loaded, two down for Ford.
Another mound visit for Richmond. Another pitching change incoming. RHP Angel Santiago-Cruz takes over on the mound for the Spiders.
Santiago-Cruz just dropped the ball on the mound, which should be a balk, but umps didn’t call it.
Ford grounds one down the 3rd base line. O’Brien fields it and steps on the bag for the force out to end the game.
Richmond wins 6-2 to improve to 19-2 (3-0) on the season. UVA falls to 12-7 (3-3).
We’ll see you next time out this Friday 6 PM EST at The Dish as we start our weekend series against Dook.
This might be the most upset I’ve EVER seen Coach Oak, at least since he got thrown out in our game against VT in 2015. When you’ve got a guy who is as calm and measured as he is to be this animated in a postgame interview, that’s when you know he’s trying to light a fire under this team.
I was at the game watching from the first base side. The home plate ump at least was consistently bad for both teams, calling anything that was mid-shin high a strike.
I was wondering where the lineup was the weakest. And I assumed it was the bottom of the order. So I went back game-by-game and analyzed 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9. They’re fairly similar, but a few stats really stand out.
ORDER AVG R RBI HR LOB
Top .297 38 44 7 39
Mid .300 48 38670
Bot .300 52 43 5 37
70 (!!!) LOB from the middle of the order, and only six homers and 38 RBI.
Oak going at the boys and I’m here for it. It’s been a pathetic start to the season, outside of some miracle comebacks, particularly for where the expectations were. Now, could be those expectations were flat wrong, could be they thought they would cruise around and be great…it’s likely some of both.
Oak dropping a “freaking” in there shows you where he’s at with it, it’s time to step up or sit down to anyone that thought this season would be a cakewalk of accolades, praise, and W’s. Now, Oak could do some lineup/positional changes (he’s dabbled to try to spark something), so that is completely within his control.
Hopefully, this loss and Oak breathing fire at them finally wakes them up from this zombified state they are in. Time will tell.
BOC is such a great dude that the most pain the players will experience is the immense guilt they will feel at having disappointed him. Pretty sure he will raise his voice but that guilt will have its own sting.
