I cant overstate how big that was, getting out on just 10 pitches and stopping the mo.

12-5 UL after 6 complete. Hoos have walked 9 and committed 3 errors, UL has taken advantage while also having every single break go their way as well.

Hoos go down in game two 14-10 and fall to 27-8 (10-7) on the season. UL improves to 21-13 (7-7).

Game three, rubber match. Coady takes the mound for us, EA moved up to 2nd in the lineup after his recent hot streak.

We’re about to get underway.

Top of the 1st, RHP Carson Liggett starts on the mound for UL. SS Griff O’Ferrall to lead off for the HOOS.

  • GOF K’s swinging. One down for DH Ethan Anderson.
  • Anderson grounds out to Hoy at 2nd. Two down for RF Casey Saucke.
  • Saucke grounds one up the middle, but Hoy is able to snag it and throw to first for the out. That ends the frame.

Middle of the 1st, game is scoreless.

Bottom of the 1st, LHP Owen Coady starts on the mound for the HOOS. DH JT Benson to lead off for UL.

  • Benson on the first pitch grounds out to GOF at short. One down for 2B Dylan Hoy.
  • Hoy lines a base hit to CF. One on and one down for C Luke Napleton.
  • Hoy steals 2nd, the ball caroms off of Beckers’s glove into shallow LCF and he’s able to take 3rd as well. Good throw to 3rd from GOF would’ve got him but it went above Hanson’s head. Runner on 3rd and one down for Napleton, 2-1 count.
  • Napleton K’s (1) swinging. Runner on 3rd and two down for RF Isaac Humphrey.
  • Humphrey on a full count draws a walk. Runners on the corners and two down for LF Eddie King Jr.

  • Didawick MASHES a solo dinger down the RF line. His 15th of the season makes it 1-0 HOOS. Nobody on and one down for C Jasob Ference.
  • Ference hits a hard grounder to 3rd, but Beard is able to handle it and throw to 1st for the out. Two down for LF Anthony Stephan.
  • Stephan sneaks a base hit into LF. One on and two down for 3B Luke Hanson.
  • Hanson rips a long single into LF. Stephan goes 1st to 3rd, runners on the corners and two down for 2B Eric Becker.
  • Becker on the next pitch lines a three-run dinger off the CF batter’s eye. His 3rd of the season makes it 4-0 HOOS. Nobody on and two down for GOF.

  • Kilen chops one to Ford who takes it to 1st unassisted for the out. One down for 3B Logan Beard.
  • Beard flies out to Saucke in RF. Two down for 1B Ryan McCoy.
  • McCoy hits a bloop shot into LF that Stephan has to field on a hop. One on and two down for CF Michael Lippe.
  • Lippe walks on four pitches. Coady got squeezed a bit there. Two on and two down for Benson.
  • Benson K’s (3) swinging on high heat to end the inning.

Heading into the 3rd, HOOS lead 4-0.

Top of the 3rd, Liggett on the mound for UL. Didawick to lead off for the HOOS.

  • Anderson bounces out to McCoy at 1st unassisted. One down for Saucke.
  • Saucke lines a solo dinger off the CF batter’s eye. His 8th of the season makes it 5-0 HOOS. Nobody on and one down for Ford.
  • Ford lines a double down the LF line. Runner on 2nd and one down for Didawick.
  • Didawick on a full count works a walk. Two on and one down for Ference.
  • Ference hits a liner right at Hoy, but he drops it. This allows him to throw to 2nd for the force out. Ford had to hold up expecting the ball to be caught and is thrown out at 3rd after a review to end the frame. Horrible luck for us there.

Middle of the 3rd, HOOS now lead 5-0.

Bottom of the 3rd, Coady still on the mound for the HOOS. Hoy to lead off for UL.

  • Hoy tries to bunt for a base hit, but it’s fielded by Ference in front of the plate who throws on to 1st for the out. One down for Napleton.
  • Napleton lines a base hit to LF. One on and one down for Humphrey.
  • Humphrey on a full count draws a walk. Two on and one down for King.
  • Mound visit for UVA, DD out for a chat.
  • King skies a three-run HR over the RF wall. 5-3 HOOS. Nobody on and one down for Kilen.
  • Kilen dunks a base hit into RF. One on and one down for Beard.
  • Beard K’s (4) swinging. One on and two down for McCoy.
  • McCoy lines out to Didawick in CF to end the inning.

The people who run college sports social media accounts have gotten progressively more cringe as the years have went on.

  • Becker on 0-2 is HBP after twice failing to get a bunt down. Bases loaded and nobody outs for GOF.
  • Mound visit for UL. Pitching change incoming. LHP Kayden Campbell takes over on the mound for the Cardinals.
  • GOF flies out to Humphrey in shallow RF. Stephan holds at 3rd, bases loaded and one down for Anderson.
  • EA flies out to Humphrey in RF. This one is deep enough to score Stephan, 6-3 HOOS. Throw home hits off the C Napleton and both runners move up a base, 2nd and 3rd with two down for Saucke.
  • Saucke on a full count flies out to Lippe in shallow CF. Nearly lost it in the sun but that end the frame.

Middle of the 4th, HOOS now lead 6-3.

Bottom of the 4th, RHP Chase Hungate takes over on the mound for the HOOS. Lippe to lead off for UL.

  • Lippe hits a chopper back to the mound that Hungate is able to field and make the throw to 1st for the out. One down for JT Benson.
  • Benson flies out to Saucke in shallow RF. Two down for Hoy.
  • Hoy grounds a base hit past Becker at 2nd base against the shift. One on and two down for Napleton.
  • Napleton on the next pitch hits a hard grounder but it’s stabbed by Hanson who throws on to 2nd for the force out. That ends the inning.

Heading into the 5th, HOOS lead 6-3.

  • Ford flies out to Lippe in LCF just shy of the warning track. Got jammed but still hit it pretty hard. One down for Didawick.
  • Didawick walks on four pitches. One on and one down for Ference.
  • Wild pitch moves Didawick up a base. Runner on 2nd and one down now for Ference. 1-0 count.
  • Mound visit for UL after Ference gets ahead 2-0.
  • Ference hits a bloop shot that finds turf in RCF over the head of Hoy. Didawick holds at 3rd, runners on the corners and one down for Stephan.
  • Ference on 2-2 steals 2nd. The throw from the catcher isn’t picked and gets into CF. Didawick scores, 7-3 HOOS. Ference takes an extra base, runner on 3rd and one down now for Stephan, full count.
  • Stephan on a full count K’s swinging. Rare bad swing from Tony there on what should’ve been ball four. Runner on 3rd and two down for Hanson.
  • Hanson on a full count K’s swinging on high heat to end the frame.

Bottom of the 5th, Hungate still on the mound for the HOOS. Humphrey to lead off for UL.

  • Humphrey K’s (1) swinging. One down for King.
  • WOW. King hits a chopper up the middle, but GOF like always is able to stab it and make the throw to 1st with a spin in time for the out. Awesome play. Two down for Kilen.
  • Kilen rips a double off the bottom of the RCF wall. Runner on 2nd and two down for Beard.
  • Beard flies out to Saucke in RF to end the inning.

Heading into the 6th, HOOS lead 7-3.

Top of the 6th, RHP Will Koger takes over on the mound for UL. Becker to lead off for the HOOS.

  • Becker draws a walk. One on and nobody down for GOF.
  • GOF on 2-2 slaps a base hit into RF after failing to get two bunts down. Two on and nobody down for Anderson.
  • The anti ASMR noises have returned. Listening to this with headphones is genuinely torture.
  • Anderson on 2-2 lines a base hit into LF after failing to get two bunts down. Becker scores from 2nd, 8-3 HOOS. Two on and nobody down for Saucke.
  • Saucke on the next pitch lines out to Humphrey. GOF tags up a base, runners on the corners and one down for Ford.
  • Ford does what Ford does. Three run BOMB over the CF wall. His 13th of the season makes it 11-3 HOOS. Nobody on and one down for Didawick.

Maybe guys who should never be bunting should pretend to try on the first two attempts every time. Two-strike hits when Oak wanted to bunt are coming through for us today.

As Karl pointed out on the 247 board, makes even less sense when they’re bunting to set up Saucke/Ford/Didawick who are all major power threats and have HR’s in this game. Try to get as many as you can on base when they come up, don’t just give up outs.

Thankfully it worked out anyway so a moot point.

  • McCoy blasts a solo shot over the LCF wall. 11-4 HOOS. Wind definitely helping some of these balls today. Nobody on and none down for Lippe.
  • Lippe grounds out to Ford at 1st unassisted. One down for Benson.
  • Benson grounds one to Hanson at 3rd who picks it on the backhand and throws to 1st in time for the out. Two down for Hoy.
  • Hoy lines a base hit into RF. One on and two down for Napleton.
  • Napleton hits a soft grounder to 3rd. Hanson charges and makes the throw on the move for the out to end the inning.

Heading into the 7th, HOOS lead 11-4.
