UVA Basketball 2022-2023 Post Mortem Thread/Transfer out thread

yeah it was his decision after getting recruited over

I mean come on, the he was homesick the whole year thing doesn’t make sense on any level. Why not leave in January if that is the case. On a redshirt no harm done.

Frankly, I understand this decision way more from Traudt’s POV than I do our decision making on any level unless it is his health issue.

Top fiftiesh recruit from Nebraska is red shirted while BVP is brought in to play 25 minutes a night. Watches Creighton go to elite eight while Kihei looks off every first year that does play all year long ultimately resulting in a 4/13 upset.

Watches Creighton essentially lose because of lack of production from bench where he could have been getting minutes. Girlfriend, family. Yeah, I get it.

The decision to take BVP is going to sting for a long time, and as I said in another thread, a hand wave doesn’t really do it for me. Mistakes were made. Large, glaring, neon billboard on the highway mistakes.

We will see who we get. But if it is another mid range shooting undersized power forward Bill and Tedding his way from the nineties I am going to be bummed to say the least.

this is spot on. Fans who don’t see this are in denial I’m sorry. Glaring roster management issues

Massive. Losing 2 bigs because of roster management.

If Isaac was better than BVP he would’ve been playing in that first game like iMac. But he wasn’t ready.

Should’ve burnt his redshirt in the Furman game once they went to 1-3-1.

So if Shedrick is the other transfer, and HGN’s word from last week that Franklin is probably not returning, we could be 3/4 of the way to the worst case scenario…pending what happens with Reece.

He said he was scared- and so didn’t want to play and decided to redshirt (paraphrasing). So if that’s the case that’s not the type of player we want…the fact that we have 25+ minutes for him next year just shows that it was something else…

Or on the flip side- he actually did want to play and TB didn’t let him…that’s a BIG problem.

I dunno. Parents could have made him stick it out, wanted to see if things got better, looks bad leaving midseason vs. end of season when there are a ton of transfers. Could make sense.

I thought this year getting a 4 seed and winning a share of the regular season title was great work by the staff. Last year missing the tournament sucked and we played last year’s guys a significant amount. But I also thought it was one of the worst years of roster management since 2016-17 season. BVP started playing too much as early as the Michigan game. But as long as he was making shots it was ok. Late in the season all those bricked 3s were just turnovers but he played no matter what. I love CTB but sometimes I just don’t understand his thinking.

Yeah, great non-con, ACC regular season share, ACC-T final, and a 4-seed. It was a very good outcome against my expectation. I didn’t expect any of those things.

As I continue to take potshots at the staff’s choices this offseason, I promise to keep those things in mind. I’m sure that will give them great peace! Lol!

Tbh, though, these actual and rumored departures kinda stink but at least Tony is still here, and that’s immediately where my brain went – that Tony might be gone – expecting the worse after the infamous Czar post… I enjoyed watchin UVa hoops pre-Tony, and I suspect I will enjoy it post-Tony, too, but he has made it a lot more fun, hasn’t he? Hasn’t he? Hmmm … I’m kidding; yes of course he has.

I hit a point of apathy for about half a decade post-Singletary, pre-Scott. Disappointment is way better than apathy.

I felt a similar way essentially from the moment the Hoos lost to the Zags in the 01 Tournament until 2012 minus the Singletary run. It’s a rough spot to be in as a fan.

Think the thought here is Traudt would have more than likely been a larger contributor than BVDP by end of season. We already knew what we had with BVDP- quality kid, family connection with Bennett, career 30% shooter from 3, one hit game vs UVA in tourney, tough but not overly athletic. Traded all of that for upside over course of season of Traudt.

Duke’s high school studs stay at Duke as long as Traudt will be at UVa (difference being that the Duke kids stop going to class at NC Central once the season ends so they can prepare for the draft).

Traudt has to stay eligible.

Always comes back to Clark. (He must not have looked off everyone if he was No. 2 in the ACC in assists — but that’s as irrelevant as the quoted point.)

We’ve started a new era in Uva basketball. Gonna be a completely different team next year. I’m disappointed in some of the guys leaving, but excited about new possibilities.

Could force some introspection and changes to our approach. I hope it does.
