UVA Basketball Thread 11/23

You nailed it for me. I want to see more out of those guys to get back to my unrealistic optimism. I think one of polls asked if we were more optimistic or more pessimistic after the first game. I didn’t like the options but I answered I was more pessimistic. What I wanted to say is that I am less optimistic (remember, I started with “unrealistic” optimism).

Ill make it 4 options next time

I wanted to vote “same” (neither more nor less optimistic). There was some good and bad relative to my expectations but it mostly evened out.

Yes, I’m about where I was before the season on this team. No change based on that game.

I would like to see how Bond evolves. He could be a key to raising the ceiling a little.

This is the only correct answer this century.

Love Leon coaching the new redshirts on the payoff he saw from his RS year. He is a leader and hope Elijah, Christian and AR see the path!

Future assistant coach / ace recruiter, after a nice career probably in Europe.

Leon is going to much more important things than coach college basketball when he’s done playing. Also believe he will play in the NBA

Dunn had a similar breakout performance against Monmouth - I think his minutes were due to foul trouble - and then basically saw him very little until ACC play.

HGN alluded to similar circumstances for Bond -time more due to Dunn being out with two fouls - and to maybe expect similar path for Bind to earn to more minutes.

You know that’s not how it went down. Trout chose his redshirt.

Lol lets not

If Traudt made that declaration at the beginning of the season that he didn’t want to be at Uva then he should have gone back home by the second semester…

I thought it was more that he wasn’t going to play after not getting minutes during the 1st and 2nd(?) Game.

Y’all are going to open that wound again, huh??

Yep. He wanted to play. It was only after the DNP-CD in the first game that the redshirt was decided.

Not saying it would have prevented the transfer, but redshirting was a reaction to Tony’s initial rotation. Not planned.

Ehh. He made a business decision.

True. He was disappointed and frustrated with the redshirt. He wanted to play immediately and thought he was ready.

His camp is adamant that it wouldn’t have mattered, though, re: the transfer out, which I take with some skepticism just because I think it’s hard to know how you’d feel if you were getting playing time and the team was doing well even if you think you know - it’s something you just haven’t experienced at that scale.

Either way, that’s what they’ve held to publicly which is good, and I know Bliss reached out to Traudt before he committed and Isaac had nothing but positive things to say despite the disappointment - so he’s definitely left about as gracefully as he could, given that was going to be his decision, IMO.

Personally, I think the way we managed our frontcourt last season was one of the bigger (biggest?) tactical mistakes we’ve made in the CTB era and there really aren’t many others that approach it (on a macro level at least).

But, mistakes happen and hopefully we learn from them and adapt. I also think the Sanchez hire is going to help a lot with this kind of thing moving forward.

I don’t think the Gertrude situation is directly comparable to the Traudt redshirt and I do think the fact that Buchanan is ahead of Minor in the rotation is a positive sign re: not deferring so much to experience if the margins are close and letting your young talent get run.

Who the hell cares. The dude is gone. So lets spend the whole season talking about redshirts. Im good with the 3 redshirts this year. I dont give a damn what Traudt does at Creighton. If he wanted to be gone then im glad he’s gone. Wish him the best but if we play them then i hope we put an ass woopin on him and his team … carry on

Ugh I think it’s relevant because if you pair the expected versions of Beekman, McKneely, and Dunn with Shedrick and an even somewhat ‘hit’ version of Traudt that’s a top 5 team this year. We traded a Final Four caliber season for an ACC regular season title and first round NCAAT exit. Can’t do that again

Tony will absolutely do that again. He doesn’t play people to keep them for the future or to keep them from leaving. Just look at this year after what happened last off season.

He doesn’t play people that don’t deserve it in his eyes and it’s not based on analytics. Whether it’s defense, attitude, whatever.
