Do what again? Bring in an unnecessary grad transfer that leads to an otherwise not needed redshirt? Then play that grad transfer out of position over a guy who had spent 4 years in the program working and developing? Yea, I doubt Tony will do that again. Especially with Ron Sanchez back on staff to tell him no
Itâs relevant. Donât think âtradedâ is the right characterization, though.
If Shedrick was benched, which he would have been regardless, Papi was going to play. Or Dunn. Pretty sure Shedricks story ends the same if you think Tonyâs non-negotiable are indeed non negotiable (right or wrong).
You donât think Shedrick might have handled the benching better if it was to a guy who had spent 5 years in the program and was actually a center than it being to a family friendâs son who had been there less than a year and was playing out of position? My limited understanding of human psychology makes me skeptical of that suggestion
LOL, the family friendâs son part is irrelevant. Thatâs not why Tony played BVP. What in the world.
Didnât say that was why Tony played BVP but I think itâs a bit naive to suggest that didnât play a role in how Kadin received the benching. Being benched for coachâs college buddyâs kid is different than being benched for a guy who had been the in the program longer than you. Just human
Man, I wish Papi had stayed. Of course no one ever thought that was a possibility anyway, and Iâm happy for him to be balling out at Santa Clara, but not only could we really use him this year, he was just a fun guy to root for.
Speaking of, CAFF-aro played 28 minutes in their first game and went 13 & 8 with 2 blocks. Go big Papi.
Papi may go down as our most beloved transfer. Everyone roots for Papi to do well
Shedrick and his family seem utterly confused as to why he was benched at all. So I have no idea if he wouldâve handled the other scenario better.
Me too, me too. Wouldâve gotten decent minutes and allowed Blake to grow and get his own minutes as well. Plus brought the nastiness.
This board discussed this in the offseason but thatâs actually what I hope the lesson from last year was for the staff: be better about communicating lineup and minutes decisions to players. Seems to be a weak spot in basketball coaching overall compared to other sports
Some humans are going to make up excuses in their own mind as to why they didnât succeed. Shedrick lost his starting role after game 15 in 2022-23. He also lost his starting role after game 16 in 2021-22, when BVP wasnât on the roster. That strongly suggests it has more to do with Shedrick than anyone else. If he didnât understand why at that point, best for him to find somewhere else to play.
Ultimately, Sheds was a bad fit for Tonyâs style of coaching. Much like Morsell. Just couldnât adapt to the instruction and coaching. Clearly got wrapped up in his own head and was broken. I wouldnât be surprised to see Sheds have a good year at Texas. Much like Morsell finding his game in Raleigh. Doesnât mean they would have been like that here if they stuck it out.
I do wonder, with Sanchez having head coaching experience now, if the staff will look more like a dual head coach situation. That felt like the organizational structure when McKay was here. Of course, Tony had final say but he delegated a lot to McKay and listened to him often.
The latest 3 Man Weave podcast talked about the change to the charge rule. They were very much in favor of the change and wondered how some schools might adapt. Virginia was mentioned as a school that took a lot of charges and that surprised me.
For those of you who are more knowledgeable on this topic, are we big on taking charges, and if so, how do you think the new rule impacts our defensive strategy?
I wonder if thatâs historical or just all Kihei lol. If the latter, those are mostly on ball charges taken, so new rule wouldnât apply.
I thought IMac was robbed on a charge vs. Tarleton
Itâs not a stat that is tracked so Iâm guessing itâs anecdotal based on Kihei.
My anecdotal take is that Duke took more charges than any team historically and will be exempt from this new rule.
The way I understand the new rule the refs were right that iMac should not get the credit for being charged
Whatâs the rule again? I remember seeing it live and thinking that iMac had been standing there for a hot minute.
Basically standing there for a hot minute not allowed ha. If you arent the primary defender, I think
