Scoop those and move down
I think thereās a difference between ball security and decision-making. Plenty of his poor decisions didnāt end up in turnovers. Dribbling 15 seconds off the clock going nowhere, driving into the trees to have the ball stuffed 10 rows up, etc. Kihei just made a ton of plays (on both ends) that if another player had made the same play, they would have seen it impact their playing time. How his career ended wasnāt exactly surprising from my perspective because we had seen it before.
Anyways, this topic has been discussed enough. As it relates to this season, I doubt Dante will have as long of a leash as Kihei had. Arguably no player has had a longer leash during the Bennett era. Part of that was due to circumstance (for much of his career, he HAD to play 30+ minutes) the rest is just Tonyās deference to him. A skillset like Danteās (or kiheiās) is valuable if combined with the right complement of players and used appropriately.
Sorry, are you referring to Kiheiās sophomore year or last yearās tournament game?
Reeceās ATO ratio is unreal - heās almost a full assist over London in ratio terms.
Reece is underrated because our scheme doesnāt maximize his abilities. On a team that really emphasized pushing the tempo, he would be more valued by scouts.
Lol. Ouch, too soon.
His sophomore year.
Season hasnāt started yet, and weāre already clutching pearls over possible lineups, crapping on guys who have yet to play a single minute of regular-season ball for Virginia, and re-litigating Kiheiās career.
Man, the first game of the year cannot come soon enough.
āCrapping on Kihei, thatās what Virginia does!ā
Yeah, the obvious go-to example being Nigel Johnson. Who, looking back on his numbers, was better than I remembered at a bunch of things. 2-1 A/TO ratio, averaged 0.8 TOs/game (a hair under 2.0 TOs/40 minutes), committed essentially zero fouls with an excellent steal rate, wasnāt a bad rebounder and was even one of the better players on the team at drawing fouls (attempted almost as many FTs as Ty despite half the minutes).
But he never had a shot a serious playing time because his backcourt competition was Ty, Guy, and Hall in āSenior-year god of efficiencyā mode. Kihei has never faced competition like that for playing time. Pretty much the only season of his entire career in which he had any measurable competition at all was with Woldo in '21 but even then, thereās probably a better argument for Woldo cutting into freshman Reece!'s playing time than Kiheiās. Plus, as good as Woldo was, that teamās flaws would not have been solved with more outside shooting.
The point of all of this is that Iām fascinated to see how the Harris/Rohde (+rest) competition goes. Because Johnson never faced this little competition and if the backcourt even gets close to its potential itāll be tougher competition than Kihei ever faced.
Reminds me of similar offseason vid from Hunter back in the day.
RD is gettin there
Fresh what do you think about the wide stance on his 3s. He doesnāt do it on the pull-ups, only on the catch and shoot 3s
Handles look much improved
Loved when he went left around Bliss and then 2-handed jammed over the other defender coming in from the weak side. That was tasty.
Good question for a shooter like Fresh. IMHO, his form looks much tighter and improved with that stance. Weāll see if it holds up or starts breaking down in game action.
His handle is still a little bit high plus a bit exposed. I would be swiping at it all day baby!
He is still thinkin about the shot. But also that is practice so maybe being methodical about his work
Yep and will get better and better. Needs to be a little calmer with it I think
