Isn’t it also possible (as one of you mentioned the other day) Groves has found the perfect niche in our offense and playing for CTB? Maybe other parts of his game work better in our offense? Maybe we should be excited about his offensive potential and not look at it as he is starting or playing heavy mins by default because others are not playing well.
I am simply hopeful that his layups don’t ricochet off the underside of the rim (or, backboard)!
I think it’s important to remember the summer reviews of Rohde were very positive. So ‘hit the wall’ means in fall practice he fell from ahead of the pack back to in the pack of guys fighting for PT. Hard to discern what that means for starting vs coming off the bench.
FWIW I fully expect Rohde and Harris to each start games OOC and sort things out in games. Seems like TB all but said the same thing between his two media appearances over the last week or so
Yeah, we are used to an environment (the last two years) where Tony didn’t change the starting lineup that much and changed the rotation even less. Which is why these questions seem so high stakes. But at times in his tenure here, he changed both fairly frequently.
I have preferences and priors about who I want to start and be in the rotation, but what I really want is for Tony to try a bunch of stuff, at least in the cupcakes, if not the bigger games.
I’m good with situational lineups, especially if it results in more guys seeing PT and allows the ability to adjust to the opponents and our own game situations.
Dante’s outside shot has a super great personality. And nice hair. Just give it a chance!
^^^ This.
Take a look at the top 13 assist leaders at UVa, and their ATO ratio:
Beekman 424 (Bennett) 3.29:1
Perrantes 569 (Bennett) 2.70:1
Jerome 384 (Bennett) 2.65:1
Jones 598 (Holland) 2.14:1
Clark 718 (Bennett) 2.12:1
Crotty 683 (Holland) 1.97:1
Johnson 426 (Holland) 1.95:1
Evans 419 (Bennett) 1.87:1
Wilson 493 (Holland) 1.65:1
Singletary 587 (Gillen + Leitao) 1.46:1
Alexander 401 (Jones) 1.44:1
Hand 529 (Gillen) 1.37:1
Deane 468 (Jones) 1.29:1
I’m gonna be mad about rotations before the season starts and you can’t stop me.
Yes and no. The only Kihei season where he was bad at ball-security (both in KenPom-per possession numbers as well as absolute numbers), was his Sophomore year and CTB’s guard options were Clark, Woldo, Stattman (kinda), and Morsell. CTB REALLY wanted Morsell to work out, but he didn’t. And as much as we liked Woldo, making him that team’s PG and primary ballhandler would have been horrific.
Kihei had many flaws, but the only time being reckless was the ball was one, there was no way to bench him.
But do it smell good too?!?!
Oh no trust me Im already complaining about hypotheticals. Even my assumptions from back in the Spring are going to be hard to overcome even with real gametime data proving otherwise.
Absolutely! Great hygiene!
In the same boat. Trying to remember that TB is not starting Harris, Reece, Isaac, Dunn, and Groves…… YET
disclaimer: that could be an effective lineup. But I’ve decided I don’t like it so I’m gonna be angry.
Need 8 tickets for game vs NC A&T. Should i wait to buy tix just before game or buy now?
Pretty sure that Harris will start out as the 7th man/first guard off the bench with Gertrude having an opportunity to eat into his minutes as the season progresses. We’re forgetting that TB has consistently shown a preference for veterans with good offensive skillsets to defense-first players in recent years.
Also, will always have this game as part of my memory of Bobby Knight.
I would wait unless already crazy cheap
So you must have BVP as 6th man?
Austin Nichols has taken that spot but BVP would be somewhere there on the bench.
Some nosebleeds are $1!
