šŸˆ UVa Football Postseason '23-'24

Same here. We have exciting young players on both sides of the ball and intriguing transfers that have legit talent (Andre Greene Jr. is an absolute dawg).

That being said, I think the lack of talent and depth in the trenches will once again hold us back from breaking through and becoming bowl eligible. Injuries on the line completely neutered our pass rush last year.

Look like a football team. Control the controllables.
Good clock management… good game management…
Those are the things that should be non negotiable for all of us to be fans.

CTE and the Hoos strike gold again. Signed a 3 star DL from Georgia Sichan John. He had offers from Louisville, Georgia and Maryland to name a few. He was on the group that visited over the weekend that got 2 commits we mentioned earlier in the week.

Like I said earlier in the week, I’m not sure if it will work out for this staff but they are building something.

Some interestimg UVA football off-season discussion. What happens if this turns into another 3 win season

… but it is Chris Graham… instant no credibility.

Makes sense to me. I see maybe 3 wins. AC can give us a puncher’s chance to steal 1-2 wins over and above.

I hope the team does well enough for Tony Elliott to keep his job because 2025 and 2026 look promising for bowl bids. I’d rather not have to start over after this season.

Agree. Sometimes hard to project 2-3 years out when matchups are made, but scheduling didn’t do CTE any favors.

We should be playing all cupcakes in the OOC to get a good foundation of bowl opportunities for a couple of years, before getting more aggressive with scheduling.

You don’t need Chris Graham, Alexander Graham Bell, or Graham Crackers to tell you wat to expect from Virginia football this season.

Told y’all I’ve set the O/U at 3.5 wins and as of today 6/27 I’m leaning over.

And as I’ve said plenty of times already, a 3 or 4 win season is not the worst outcome for this team, and if administration can remain patient they will see some rewards coming in 25/26

So if TTT :tiger: :tiger: :tiger: goes into Y4 averaging 3 wins a season is he on the hot seat or not?

Great question, I hate to be wobbly about it, but it honestly depends on what the season looks like how did those 3 wins come about and what did the loses look like. There’s going to need to be a eye test of how the team played did they show growth on the field that is matching the growth around the program and recruiting.

It easily could just be a postponement of the inevitable but in all honesty firing a coach after 4 yrs vs 3 years, when the program essentially remained flat to where it was before the hire, may be the smarter play. Generally programs that find success especially sustained success after a long down period are the ones that a staff was able to come in and establish continuity. Virginia has a long history of giving coaches a much longer leash than 4 years.

ā€œWhen the program remained flat to where it was before the hireā€ is a very odd way to characterize the Tony Elliott era. If he maintained the success Bronco had we wouldn’t be having this conversation

Yes and no.

Yes Bronco had success there’s no denying that. There’s also data that shows the success is directly correlated to a small sample of his overall tenure as HC, he was a .500 coach. In addition the trajectory of the program was not the direction anyone was happy with and if rumors are to be believed he was not willing to take the necessary steps to correct that, and if his extracurricular activities rumors were true then he had to go and all the football stuff can be tossed out the window.

Back to the current program, I’ve said it many times I think CTE’s era will be known for becoming the stabilizing era. Unfortunately that may not result in wins on the field but it will be the foundational pieces the next regime can build on.

It ain’t sexy, fun or impressive, but I do believe that’s how programs are built when they need to be built from the bottom up.

First I’ve ever heard extracurriculars mentioned wrt Bronco. Do tell.

It’s rumor and inuendo but there’s 3 little birdies that say Bronco’s abrupt exit had more to do with his off the field work than his on the field performance. @BillyHoyle likely has better details from his local watering hole.

I heard similar but don’t have the confidence in it to say for certain it happened. Felt kinda gossipy.

That’s all fine and good but you just can’t say that below .500 football is the same as .500 football (plus beating Tech plus an Orange Bowl appearance).

True but if we wanna go there Bronco was Virginia: 36–38 while at UVA and 22–27 in conference so bellow .500. Yes he beat Tech (I am glad of that but also it’s not like he beat a great Tech team or that Tech is much more than a .500 program the last 5 years) The Orange Bowl was nice, but again could also be considered a technicality after finishing runner up in the ACC and Clemson going to the CFP rather than the Orange Bowl they were slotted for.

We have different measures of success and they are not being applied consistently and in the same manor, which is fine. That’s what sports debates are.

Yea it’s sheer gossip and I only mention it at this point because I feel like enough time has passed, plus I’ll kick someone when they are down if I’m not a fan of them.

Yeah I mean after his first season it was consistently .500 level football. Honestly I think this is probably more an argument about where you think this football program can go. I don’t think we can do much better than .500 but I understand why others would think we could. The new facility has shifted my perspective on that a little bit though
