A lot of people forget that in the summer of 2019 the three-point line was moved back so the 2019 2020 season was the first one at the farther distance. 20ā9ā to 22ā2ā
So Iām sure for a lot of guys it was an adjustment they simply did not make well
Yes, as I mentioned, I was referring to ACC games. Which also takes into account, allowing them to adjust to the new longer line that year
And Key, who in general I love, went 12-65 from 3 that season. He and Morsell combined to go 27-150 from 3 point range which I believe is a TS% of 27%. Thatās going to pull the numbers down.
Edit - Per KenPom, we had 2 players that year (Huff and Mamadi) across the entire roster who were better offensively than Blake is this year. Its kind of mesmerizing how bad that team was on offense. They were genuinely poor at Offensive Rebounding, 3rd worst in the ACC, and it was the offensive category they were clearly the best at.
KPI/SOR average is important.
Someone told me on Coachesā corner tonight Tony compared Blake Buchanan to a young PJ Hall and said Blakeās goal next season is 240-250lbs. Anyone else catch what he said?
They usually post the show on the Facebook page, but itās not there yet. Maybe theyāll do it tomorrow.
Old news at this point, but this is a cool breakdown:
The tweet that he quoted has the other way we use stagger screens, which is to distract the help defense so Reece can drive his man with max room to operate. But then if teams try to load up on that, the flare screen counters their help positioning. Good design.
Easier to say āscreen the screenerā. Ha
Haha yes, āStrong Fanā is descriptive only to people who spend too much time looking up basketball play terminology.
Ha. Yea man. The new try hard terminology cracks me up.
Donāt look now but guess how many Power 6 teams have a better overall record than Virginia???
Just 5 of them
My favorites will always be Hammer (Louisville, late 2015; FSU, early 2017 season; UNC, late 2020 ā unsuccessful vs. BC in late 2013, with Bub dribbling off his leg) and Triple Pop ā Pitt 2014.
If we hadnāt won in 2019 and the big 3 still left I probably wouldāve hated the 2020 team, but I kinda loved it. Tough as nails and so ass on offense but just gritty and found ways to win. It was THE textbook TB high floor team
Oh at this point I want to *win the ACC, which will obviously take care of the NCAA tournament seating so that isnāt as much my concern ![]()
You mean win the Acc tournament to get the automatic bid?
Oh I donāt consider winning a 5 day tournament as āimportantā or as noteworthy as being consistent over a 3 month period to win the regular seasonā¦atleast thatās what I tell dook fans
The ACC tournament is a pin in a cap, but I agree with someone yesterday saying that the NCAA committee has mostly already decided who is in the NCAA tournament with only a few contingencies in case of a win or surprising victory in the ACC tournament (and other tournaments).
I want to win the ACC Tournament. I also want to win the ACC regular season. Iād prefer doing both of those things to doing only one of those things, and Iād prefer doing one of those things to doing zero. If we do zero I still want to win as many games as possible. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
Iād much rather get to the sweet 16 than win the ACCT. Iād call it a successful season if we were get out of first round this year. Sweet 16? Great season, especially where we were a month ago. ACCT has lost its luster to a degree for me over the last few years. If we can go 5-3 down stretch and secure a 6 seed or so, avoiding a 1-2 seed until sweet 16ā¦
I would like to amend my earlier statement to add that I would also like to reach the sweet 16. ![]()
