Gelling in March is a good plan if you donât burn down your NCAAT hopes before then.
I think I came into the season expecting some ups and downs given the youth on this years team. I think whatâs been disappointing is how badly the dips have gone. It would be one thing if in a couple of games our opponent pulled away late and won by 11, and in another game we let a late lead slip away and we lost by four. But instead the wheels have absolutely come off the wagon. Which is why my vibes are way down
Over the past 16 days the Virginia menâs and womenâs teams have combined to lose 8 of 9 games.
UVA revenue sports are dead. Take $50 million from the endowment to fund the olympic sports
Meanwhile Kate Douglas just set another record in the breaststroke that was 12 years old⌠in JanuaryâŚ. Stud!!!
As far as I can tell, only two UVA players will have played for TB for 4 years and have never won an NCAAT game: Jontel Evans and Reece Beekman.
This is a bit disappointing. To be fair, Iâm missing the context.

This year should have been the focal point of the rebuild that started in 21-22. Senior PG and Senior Center, plus the core of a promising recruiting class with a year of learning the ropes. Instead, we made the focal point last year.
Next year will be the beginning of a new cycle, as we will be losing senior PG and 1st round pick (highly likely) W/PF and our stretch 4/5 and our most stout 5. Next year we will break in a new PG and an almost completely retooled post rotation.
Am I interpreting Tony correctly? If so, Is he looking at the cycles correctly?
I think itâs hard to call it a rebuilding year when 3 of your top 5 in minutes are likely (assuming RD) gone after this year. Just too much attrition, and not enough âpopâ from the guys brought in to replace the ones we lost.
The games are starting to feel like a rebuilding yearâ and Tony could lean more that way with playing time going forwardâ but I agree that it shouldnât have been one if things had gone to plan the last couple years. Got a senior all-conference PGâ this should be a âresultsâ year.
@Cuts_from_The_Corner at some point Iâd love to hear your thoughts on m the young guys. Like a mid season report of the non seniors and where theyâre at relative to maybe some preseason expectations, what they need to improve, and areas to be excited about going forward.
Hi there - Iâll see what I can do. Tbh itâs a pretty long in-season grind just to turn around game reviews on time when there are two games a week.
If thereâs a moment in time where it makes sense Iâll do so - and I regularly comment on how guys are doing all of the time in the game reviews - but it might have to be an offseason thing, depending.
Totally understand. Maybe itâs something you do after the season if youâre up for it. No pressure!
Interesting that it took until mid-January to get to the point where the starting line-up resembles what I had thought it would be when posting here last summer. That said, I think a lot of cudos are due to Minor. He must have put in a lot of effort to earn a starting role considering he was at the end of the bench in November. That kind of work deserves recognition.
you should consider mixing up the formats during two a weeks so you arenât killing yourself trying to get them out on time. Like a zoom in on one or two guys, or just shorter hits following up from the last post about whether you saw what you hoped for. I think we are seeing a lot of patterns recreate themselves game over game plus itâs hard to draw conclusions from any one game, so mixing formats allows some longer arcs of study and conclusions across multiple games. and you could choose to make it not as work intensive.
Anyway, totally just food for thought.
You could tell that performance meant so much to him. Rewards all of his hard work and he kept a really positive demeanor on the sidelines while logging multiple DNPs. Had to have been really hard and his teammates, especially Dunn, seemed to really be pumped for him. So happy for the guy.
Also, he plays with an edge that I love. You wouldâve thought he grew up hating VT because he above anyone else was taking that matchup personally. Hit Kidd with the âyouâre too smallâ which was the best moment of the night. We need some cockiness from time to time
Iâve been an avid follower of UVa basketball for over half a century, and I cannot remember any player who has gone from the very end of the bench to a starting role in a single season. Remarkable.
Saturdays game is pretty big eh?
Win and we have a favorable schedule to go on a nice winning streak.
Anyone got a quick breakdown of how we matchup. Looks like theyâve been pretty bad at home minus the duke win
Notable strengths:
- offensive glass
- rim protection
- 3P defense
Notable weaknesses:
- Shooting, all of it. 3s, 2s, free throws especially.
- Turning other teams over
- A ton of other stuff where they rank in the 140s - 180s
Theyâll be the second worst defensive team weâve played yet this year, among high majors. WVU a little better. Lville much worse
