Just noticed Dunn hit a 3 yesterday? Must have happened in the first 5 minutes before it was on tv.
AnywayâŚI could see it ending up a really hard decision for him. Or not, all depends on how he and his family look at it. If heâs projected as a late 1st rounder letâs say early 20sâŚthatâs what $3M guaranteed? More? Not sure. But teams arenât that invested in players chosen that late. If heâs not panning out, theyâll move on easily. The real (as if $3M isnât real ha) money is in getting to the 2nd contract. Thereâs a good argument for a high risk player as you put it, their best chance of sticking is to be as well prepared as possible year one unless theyâre chosen at least top half of the first round.
Should also add with NIL, itâs not an all or nothing game anymore. Might be wrong but I imagine certain people would find a way to get him maybe $200K in deals to keep him around.
I would say no brainer for him to leave early if youâre guaranteed somewhere in the first 25 spots.
If you come back youâre betting on 1) having better success developing your shot in a college atmosphere (schoolwork, fewer resources, les time) and 2) that youâll stay healthy. Any of those two things donât happen, youâre potentially out of the first round and things get murkier.
His family has been through this (although different) with his older brother. They understand the business.
Dunn did get an open 3 early and looked comfortable taking it.
For as much as I bitched about RD being a draft prospect I do feel for him. Thereâs a lot of money on the table to grab and Iâll never tell anyone to not take advantage of that.
The hard part is heâs a significant project at the next level and Iâm worried he wonât get the time, attention, and system he needs to fill his full potential. However, UVA not be right spot to do thay as well. Honestly heâd benefit from being an under the radar guy in the obscurity of the Mizzu Valley Conference where he can develop without the expectations. But thatâs not reality.
Only thing I have to add to the Dunn draft chatter is that if the standard were âready to contribute in the NBA immediatelyâ there would only be 3-5 guys drafted in any given year
The guys that are better than RD on the college level who donât wind up getting drafted, donât wind up getting drafted because their skills are a dime a dozen in the NBA. If RD goes first round, itâs because some NBA team thinks he has âhome runâ skills, likely on the defensive end.
I feel like we all agree on this, but then I see incredulity on why the NBA would want a guy who could be a HR hitter, but might strike out, over a bunch of guys who are really good at hitting the relay man or whatever, when RD is throwing the ball into the stands.
Dunn needs to strike while the iron is hot. If he comes back and doesnât demonstrate improvement on offense, now heâs a year older with even more evidence that heâll be an offensive liability in the NBA. If they give you first-round money, you take that money, Ryan!
Isnât there talk that this yearâs draft is weak as well? If he comes back and improves he still might end up in the late first round range because of the depth of the other draft prospects.
Reece at over 3 assist to 1 turnover ratio, given the context of this team, is pretty freakin bonkers.
Need to hit him with a 7 figure NIL deal AND a personal call from Brogdon talking about how he still made it in the NBA after a 5th year and was an all american. Within a 24 hour span to make the message hit more with the NIL money in mind too. And a guarantee that we wonât add a stretch 4 who takes half the season for us to make them playable.
(edit: Rohde also at 3.1 assists to 1.1 turnovers a game. A Tony Bennett staple).
Agree completely. Let Reece and Dunn get theirs, we look good for 2 more NBA dudes, and we have Bliss/Cofie/ARob/reclass Mallory ready to goâŚsupporting an improved X/Bond, etc.
