I think in that lineup is where you want to see McKneely’s confidence grow even more. Yesterday could be huge for our season in McKneely’s confidence alone.
He’s not a point guard, but he showed a lot of potential as secondary creator, especially when he had to play pg due to injuries of others in aau.
I personally am a fan of the Bond Dunn pairing but that means either McKneely off the floor since he doesn’t fit the lead guard group yet, Bond Dunn at the 4-5 which is too thin, or Groves at the 5 which is no bueno.
I think @SaberMetrics also noted during the blue white game how well Dunn and Bond play off eachother; you can tell their chemistry is on point. Not in the cards this season though apparently and Dunn is gone next year
Nah man. You send all the videos and shit around which is huge but when we get one of the “dream” guys you wanna stay with the regular way guy you never would have Hoo and True’d over
??? I think you are confusin me explaining where Tony is coming from with personal preference.
Tony wants two ball handlers so thats why Rohde plays 30 minutes. I like Rohde.
My favorite lineup was the Reece McKneely Bond Dunn (both with a green light not overthinking and fully trusted vs hesitant) Buchanan lineup in the blue white game. I guess my preference is close to what @paperboy is but I also live in fantasy land where its not my job and Im not in desperation mode to make the tournament, hence the comfortness tony is show in personnel decisions.
Like I dont think Bond should play more in the context of the current team in place of Rohde if the goal is to make the ncaa tournament from Tony’s perspective. But I would play Bond a lot from the beginning and go through the growing pains in my personal view of the roster.
New offensive idea….when play clock winding down, rather than an Isaac mid-range, toss the rock to Dunn at least once per game to let it fly from three.
Real Talk - the end of shot clock stuff has always driven me crazy. Mostly because we had 4 years of Kihei dominating those with mostly awful results. With our current team an Isaac pull up 3 from 25 should be the go to play with 5 seconds left on the clock. Even if it’s a 30% shot, that’s .9 points per possession which will take in that specific scenario.
The only alternative would be Reece driving if he has a good matchup.
Related to that. I definitely adopt the mindset of if a player is shooting 42%+ from 3, they aren’t shooting enough (and I know Tony was a career 50% shooter but also scored 2k points). I actually want Isaac to take more difficult 3s that might bring the percentage down a bit. I’d rather him shoot an additional 3 3’s a game that might be 35% shots because again, the alternative is definitely worse in those kind of possessions.
I mean take the advanced metrics with a grain of salt. Evan Miya’s algo has Kyle Filipowski as the 4th best defender in the ACC so far and the best defender last year.
