I do like this input. We should really try this winning basketball games idea. I think current strategy of losing games isnât really conducive to success.

@kingralph seems nice
Thatâs @kingral3o89247238479823534253247858634 to you.
@DFresh11 I thought you were rolling in the LRA money. Why havenât you bought us DaRon Holmes and TJ Power yet?
Definitely truth to what Trilly is saying. If Bennett wanted to green light buying transfers, theyâd have more players available to them. Whatâs happening with the portal is a lot of guys just have price tags to enter the conversation. You contact their people, youâre informed of his price. For UVA, thatâs a no entry zone. End of convo.
Rarely an issue with high school recruits. Only players who are expected to be instant difference makers are seen as worth paying. And remember everybody is paying players anywayâŚall these guys at every high major school are getting what amounts to a not inconsiderable base salary from a collective. And for UVA, itâs probably in the top 10-20%.
Love my guy @HoozGotNext dropping knowledge. NIL has become a boogeyman and too many analysts use it as an easy out to blame everything from a program failing to produce to the evening rain.
Virginia players are well compensated compared to similar programs. To Hooz point even guys at Delaware are getting a check. CTB knows this is how the game is played and goes along. Just because heâs not bending over to pay guys does not mean the school is not involved.
The transfer portal market is just different and Virginia is far from the only school not engaging in those high dollar conversations.
Fwiw slid into Trillyâs DM. Heâs saying the same thing basically. (The latter is that Virginia does well with NIL but we lose out by not advertising).
He went on to say he was surprised Kon didnât end up at Virginia
Iâve told this beforeâŚtwice the last couple years, people associated with transfers have asked me about UVAâs NIL. Both times I connected them with someone who could answer their questions. I donât think there was any shady intentions. They just wanted some kind of idea what to expect because the coaches wonât go there like they do at some other schools.
Both times, they seemed pleased with what they heard. Pleasantly surprised I guess. I imagine since the coaches donât bring it up, they assumed players werenât getting much if anything. One was transferring from another power conference school, and said it was about twice what he was getting there.
Iâve heard talk from people who would know that there are other things going on quietly. a group of boosters working outside of Cav Futures whoâve set up a fund specifically for menâs basketball. Basically for the purpose of retaining players.
Always foolish to think Virginia doesnât have a backup war chest
So we are redshirting Cofie. Got it. And red-shirting Gertrude for real this time next season.
In Dunnâs sophomore and junior year he shot 43% from 3 both years. Between his junior and senior year he had a big growth spurt and shot 31% that year. I believe heâs a lot lower this year. When i checked this out they was film of him shooting during the time he was shooting so well and he had the prettiest shot. Now he air balls free throws. Hard to believe he used to shoot like that
@HoozGotNext , Didnât UVA just hire a guy to look after the NIL? I read something about that
It may have been someone to run Cavs Futures but i did read something like that
Wally Walker was hired for something related to NIL I believe.
Is there at least something said to the effect if you want to learn about NIL talk to XX? Seems like what most coaches would do anyway.
Like @HoozGotNext said but I will add. The War Chest part is for guys who stay around and are Hoos. Perfect example is Reece coming back would/ should be taken care of. But the people contributing will not guarantee a kid coming in money like we hear of elesewhere; why would they
Caveat: Ralph would have been given a shit load back then to come!
We should break out the war chest for Covid 5th year Reece
You probably mean Wally Walker like @timmons said
I think there is once things are further along. Itâs probably just that at UVA, a recruit needs to take steps on their own to learn about it instead of coaches pretty much negotiating with their reps as happens at some other places.
