I have heard enough about Jay that I do believe some kind of ministry will be in his future. I wish he took basketball ball more seriously but he is who he is. He has a lot of talent. Just never seen the fire in your belly that everyone needs to make it in the NBA. Having said that I havenāt completely give up on a NBA career for him. He just has to want it bad enough

I would think getting invited to the NBA Combine is a big signal of what teams think of him. I havenāt seen him in many mocks in the 2nd round, but feels like enough teams are signaling his shooting is good enough to take a 2nd round flyer.

Not a bad start from Sam. 2/3 from 3p (one of his makes was contested and late in the shot clock and the other a spot up).
Bilas states that he has to prove he can defend the pick-and-roll and defend the more athletic guys for a team to take a chance. Right on cue, Sam promptly disrupts a pick-and-roll with a deflection and then forces a travel by Jericho Sims in the post.

Listening to an episode from the Green Light Pod earlier this week and JJ Reddick gave a good take on draft evaluation.
In his words, player mental makeup and ālove for the game of basketballā is one of the best predictor of success at the NBA level. You can identify talent/promise, but that passion for the game is what creates a sustained career.

That makes total sense. As a coach Iād say the mental aspect is the biggest key component in evaluating talent, esp. the higher level you get. JJ is the perfect person to talk about that. Played him in HS a few times got to know him, never would have guessed he would run off a 14 plus year NBA career purely based on his talent.
