Hahaha! Anyone watching Euro 2020? Did you see the flop from the Italian player tonight… then quick recovery when one of his teammates scores? LOL!

ha. was watching yes
Have definitely been watching. Solid games today, although was sad to see the Swiss go down. Really enjoyed their run.
The Italians have to lead the world in flops. They do this and then sure know how to waste time when they have the lead.
Overall this tournament has been pretty exciting. A lot of goals… free flowing football… creative superstars. I’m pulling for England even though I don’t think they will win it all. Their side of the bracket will let them get to the final, but they will fall to Italy I think. That’s my prediciton.
I kind of am pulling for England too. The only thing holding me back is how insufferable their fans will be with a win…. But it would also be entertaining.
Yea I don’t want England to ever win a major tournament because it would ruin the entertainment of their fan base. Watching the English get their hopes up and then crushed is the best part of every international tournament.
Uh…wow
For those who haven’t been following closely, just wanted to highlight that tonight our #1 ranked women’s soccer team will be playing at FSU for first place in the regular season and the top seed in the ACC tournament. While we’ve been very good in recent years, we haven’t finished top of the conference and FSU has been the final boss we haven’t been able to beat on multiple occasions. We are three points ahead of them in the standings because they just dropped a game at Duke, so really we just need a tie on the road, although I’m sure we’ll be hunting for the win. Game is at 7:00 on ACCN.
Also, wanted to shout out LRA for doing a NIL deal with Dianna Ordoñez earlier this year (I’m assuming that’s the case based on her Insta). She’s a beast.
It’s been really impressive what they’ve been able to do without Becca Jarrett. I guess it helps to be able to turn to an elite transfer in Haley Hopkins, Vandy’s second-leading scorer and two-time All-American.
The team this year is awesome. Knock on wood, but I think they have a very legit shot at a natty. The offense is elite.
My unsolicited thoughts on the first half (tied 0-0):
-Virginia’s looked good on the attack. Would be up 1-0 if not for an incredible defensive effort and goal line clearance by FSU’s defender.
-Issue has been linkage between the defense and midfield. We are struggling at times to pass it out of the back. As soon as we get the ball to midfield though, we are launching dangerous attacks.
-Defending has been largely solid with a few hiccups here and there. We’ve kept them out of the box for the most part and forced shots from distance, which we can live with. Love Ivory’s general demeanor in goal.
-Most impressive players thus far for me would be Lia Godfrey (#22), Samar Guidry (#25), and Haley Hopkins (#17). Hopkins has been getting deep into the box, but her final pass/shot is failing her thus far (hopefully it won’t in second half). Just in general style of play, Godfrey is probably my favorite to watch tonight - aggressive and has made the right pass almost every time.
-Have to feel fairly good about the first half, although frustrated we don’t have a goal. FSU may put on more pressure in the second half though - they want/need the win. If we can take advantage of the counter instead of struggling to slowly pass it out of the back, we could punish them for it.
Was that it? Tie is good for UVA, right?
Winning is good. Even when it’s a tie.
That draw gives us the regular season title (we already had a share of it, but now we have it alone) and the number one seed in the ACC tournament. Very good result! Awesome season for this team.
I thought we looked like the better side for most of the game, but they looked better in OT. Not shocking since they seemingly have better depth than us and were more in need of a win.
The lady noles were very physical
A lot of cheap looking shots delivered
What’s funny is that I actually disagree. But it’s very much subjective. Despite FSU having three yellows, I thought it was a pretty clean game.
First yellow was indeed a late tackle and deserved, but she’d committed to the slide before our player played the ball to the side - so it is. Second was for interfering with the keeper, which while obnoxious (as a keeper myself, I’ll say super obnoxious), isn’t dangerous. Third was a complete accidental head-to-head collision, and I actually don’t know that it was deserved as both were going for the ball, although I’d need to see a replay again to be sure. Late in the match, there were one or two that were a little wreckless (like the tackle on Ordonez after she’d dribbled it out of bounds), but there weren’t too many and it didn’t feel out of control at all. Our yellow was pretty weak - was a slightly irresponsible attempt at a shot but she pulled her legs back before contact and their player was barely hit.
Soccer is physical and I thought for the most part it was well played and well ref’ed (although the ref was struggling to see when the ball went over the endline - we probably should have had two more corner kicks than we did). But again, people can see fouls very differently. So totally get somebody else having a different view of it.
Just got home, so didn’t watch the game live, but I’ll watch a replay later. Since at least the days of Morgan Brian, FSU has played UVA, as well as everyone else, very physically and we have struggled with that. I’ll be curious to see whether FSU is still wedded to that tactic and whether we responded better to it tonight.
My issue with the ref was his shirt was a size too small.
It’s probably a good experience before the NCAA tourney to have to play on the back foot some, since in so many games they are in control of possession and are trying to break down a low block. I thought they looked dangerous on the counter in the OT, though they were playing with fire dropping their line so low and having the center-backs not really pressure the ball unless it was practically in the box already. But it did lead to a lot of situations where Hopkins or Spaanstra was isolated against a defender on the counter attack and had space to dribble at them, so maybe it was alright.
They actually outshot FSU 2-1 in OT (and 12-10 overall), which was a little notable, though FSU did have some dangerous possession inside the box that just didn’t turn into a shot.
