UVA vs Lehigh Thread

HGN - is what someone said above about Malachi getting hurt in hs true? I’m a little excited to hear that he was a legit D1 recruit. Admittedly I was thinking he was your typical walk on. Maybe there’s some upside there

Dude, don’t do that. I don’t know what I’m talking about.

Yeah I mean we’re talking low major but anybody that can get recruited at the D1 level is an elite basketball player in the general population.

All I remember on the injury front is his last year at STAB when I got wind that he was considering taking a walk on spot I’d ask someone that covers them how he was doing…he kept missing games with injury. Had some big scoring outbursts too though.

Agree about next year.

He was also injured early on in high school when he was at Louisa. He had a knee injury that I think kept him out for a year.

Damn it looks like he’s practicing free throws.

Beekman was KenPom MVP, so Dave will be pleased.

Don’t think he’s sloppy, think he’s 2 inches short of making it easy. He’ll have to adapt a bit to bigger more athletic players. It’ll be more of a mental adjustment than most. I have high hopes but don’t think it was coincidental that we overpowered Lehigh tonight with Kadin and Papi on the court at the same time. If Gardner can find a way to be the 3 in that line up - watch out!

Love love love this.

My first year I played 2 minutes had 3 turnovers and 1 foul (charge) against Jimmy Vs NCState. He threw everything at me when I came in.

I couldnt wait for the game to be over- which I obviously didnt re enter- so I could go to Slaughter and play for hours to work on my shit

Alright, overall thoughts on tonight’s game:

Positives

  • Kihei looks more comfortable and deserves a lot of credit for improving his game in the offseason. If anything, I wish he would shoot more of the open threes he gets.
  • Caffaro may still be kind of all over the place, but he brought aggression when a lot of guys still seemed half asleep and it paid off. If he can consistently score a few points like today, that’d be a huge boost.
  • We survived a game where Franklin was only OK. Still think this team rises and falls with Franklin more than any other player, but good to see others step up.
  • Kadin is getting more comfortable in the post. Had three really nice buckets he created himself down there.
  • I am an Igor fan. While he didn’t shoot well, he looks more comfortable on defense. And he’s coming off the bench earlier, which I like.
  • Reece hit a three! Hopefully that was a massive relief for him.

Negatives

  • The starters only shot four threes, which is kind of crazy. At least we didn’t shoot a terrible percentage, but if this team can’t start to hit more threes at a decent rate, that really limits things.
  • The offense still looks bogged down for large stretches. Guys just didn’t seem to be running particularly hard or making good cuts early. Second half was much better, but first half was frustrating.
  • Not a single field goal between Stattman, McCorkle, or Murray. Am happy that Poindexter has worked hard and gotten a chance, but our depth doesn’t exactly inspire confidence right now. Hopefully everyone continues to improve.
  • Whatever curse was put on Reece that is preventing him from hitting bunnies needs to be broken. Burn some sage in his locker or something. He can hit those layups - just needs to get through this slump.

I may be drinking the Kool aid big time but I see Igor just being an absolute stud for us. The way he moves at his size and that stroke are just so rare. Going to be such a weapon.

Wait a minute- so are we wrong for having expectations of Tony’s players? Or is Tony wrong for selecting his recruits?

Something is off- otherwise players would develop and we wouldn’t be having multiple transfers in a year?

Man he has the look of being something special. Something like…how good would Dre have looked 7 games into the year he redshirted….I know I know not the same

No. Stud in making. His upside is very high. May take him this year and part of next, but he could be gone by the end of next year, certainly after two more. Weird take, I think Taine may be Joey Buckets redux. I really like his body and his shot. He needs a bit more time, but he has serious tools.

They hype around Taine was that he played Professionally in a league at a young age, and of course we saw his highlights and comparisons.

I don’t recall you EVER saying that Taine would be on the bench. It’s just convenient of you to be saying it now. Did you also predict that Reece also would still be a liability shooting?
