Oh man great pull. Forgot those 2 were linked from the BBQ backyard fun.
Outside of the cheating I just don’t understand why Louisville wants a 61 year old Pearl. If they are going to go the old route why not just bring back Pitino? Much better coach.
If they are trying to establish something long term why not go after one of the up and coming guys? This is the best wave of basketball coaching talent in a looooong time. Why not go after Craig Smith or Oats or Kyle Smith? Or Will Wade if cheating doesn’t bother them? And that’s just the guys already at major programs (I know BYU is still in the WCC for now but they are about to move).
It is indeed a head scratcher why any program might pursue the coach of the top-ranked team in the country. The same coach who missed the championship game three years ago because of three ice water free throws from some Guy. Truly, a mystery.
I get interest in Pearl. I get him being on the list. I do. But their fan base zeroing in on him is very short sighted and caught up in the moment. There are guys out there who are both better coaches and younger. And clean (if that matters to them at all). This is Louisville we are talking about. The richest basketball program in the country! Not Wazzu or Boston College. They need to take a longer term view here if they want to get back to their Pitino heights.
I basically agree on Pearl. I don’t think he’s a great longer term investment. I assume Pitino has napalmed any bridges (and vice versa), so that’s a no-go. Especially with the NCAA case STILL out there. (I think they’re at IARP).
A younger guy makes more sense.
The Pearl stuff seems to be coming from Pearl’s side.
