There are no hockey assists in basketball… only the last pass before a basket may be an assist

yea it makes sense in hockey with so many fewer scores than in hoops. coaches etc know em when they see em in basketball. Virginias soccer coach calls the receiver of the pass The Joker. like a release guy to make the pass to the pass

5:00 PM start on Saturday, televised on ACC Network

Miami is 16-6 overall, locked in a three-way tie for 2nd place in the ACC at 8-3. NET ranking of 67.

They’ve been really good in true road games, 5-1 on the season. Looking at their team stats, it’s almost been a story of two seasons, non-con vs ACC. They’ve improved in just about every category. Notre Dame knocked them off 68-64. in Coral Gables on Wednesday. Their three conference losses are by a combined six points, with FSU beating them by one on two occasions.

Miami’s Personnel

It’s an old team. Of their top seven, four are seniors. Three of those are sixth-year seniors.

Charlie Moore 5’11 Sr PG (12.5 PPG) , Former Cal/Kansas/DePaul product is having his best college season.

Isaiah Wong 6’3 Jr SG (16.1 PPG) He’s a bucket getter, can create his own at any time. Will take and make tough shots.

Kameron McGusty 6’5 Sr SG (17.5 PPG). Another bucket getter. As a bigger guy, does it differently than Wong. But they both have the greenest of lights.

Jordan Miller 6’6 Sr SF (9.0 PPG). A big guard playing the four-spot will be a tough matchup for Jayden Gardner, and vice versa. He’s a Virginia guy, transferred in from George Mason.

Sam Waardenburg 6’10 Sr PF (7.9 PPG). New Zealnder is another sixth-year guy. Dangerous stretch big, hitting over 50% from three on conference play.

Reserves

Anthony Walker 6’8 Jr PF (5.4 PPG). Athletic four-man had a nice game on Wed. If Gardner causes problems, they’ll probably answer with him in a more traditional lineup.

Bensley Joseph 6’1 Fr PG (2.8 PPG). Freshman has gotten more minutes lately. Shooting nearly 59% from three on low volume.

Strengths/Weaknesses

Miami has shot really well in conference play. 40.4%,from three 2nd in the league. Up from 36% on the season. Their only two regulars who aren’t over 40% against ACC competition are the two leading scorers, Wong (36%) and McGusty (30%) All five starters average over three attempts. UVA’s bigs will be challenged to defend on the perimeter.

They’ve dominated the turnover battle. Committed the fewest in the league, and forced the second-most. Transition points from steals, they lead the league at 9.3 per game, is a big part of their offense.

Miami is just 1-3 in ACC games with 65 or fewer possessions. The only win on a buzzer beater at VT. Take care of the ball, keep it a halfcourt game. A familiar recipe

They like to run dont they? Or is it created on turnovers?

From what I’ve seen, they’re only semi aggressive in pushing. Mostly runouts from steals. They’ll press and trap some.

How does McGusty compare to Alondes Williams on Wake?

McGusty more Kobe … Williams more Chris Paul

Hi Joe!!

Both big guards who do most of their damage in the paint. Both Oklahoma transfers. Lon Kruger must have loved guys like that.

McGusty is more explosive, lots of rise and fire pullups. Williams is more about strength mixed craftiness at the rim. I just looked, that dude is shooting 61% on 2P FG, insane for a guard.

Biased as a secondary Wake fan, but Williams is also incredibly gifted at cross-court/multi-level passing. Gets him into trouble sometimes, but can also lead to opportunities unseen. To me he should probably get the nod over Paolo for ACC POY.

Prediction: Taine sees meaningful minutes. He’s the most logical response of Miller is giving Gardner trouble.

If that’s the case then Stattmann will just get Gardner’s minutes. Barf

Any half quick wing will end that sub pattern real quick. But alas, you’re probably right. Betting on CTB to break from established pattern is… not a good bet.

Pregame show is up
