🏀 VCU vs St Bonaventure at Capital One Arena, Washington DC 11:30am EST USA Network

Jennings has some long ass arms.

I also really like Odom’s use of the press this game. I think we’re starting Council’s fatigue and he’s the only guy on the Bonnies who can consistently get a bucket.

Shulga 1-9 from the field and 0-7 from 3 but VCU still up 12.

Up 17, under a minute, and still playing relentless defense. Love it

A few thoughts:

  1. Super awkward when the announcers kept saying VCU will continue to be great for years to come with Odom etc. etc. Either awkward for VCU or awkward for us…

  2. Sending 4 players to the boards instead of 3 or less may allow for run outs by the opposing team so that may be a concern.

  3. Love the changing of defenses throughout the game and being able to cause turn overs.

  4. It will be interesting to see what kind of talent we will be able to get at UVa using his style. He has a lot of hustle players that like to do the dirty work… Recently we haven’t had those types of players/athletes so it will be exciting…. Louisville this year is what that kind of looks like.

As a point guard you have to be able to shoot…Our problem was that since 2020 we did not have a PG that made you respect his shot, ironically until this year in which Rohde was able to play that role and thus our offense did look better with him, iMAC and Dai Dai on the floor.

So you’re saying 18-2 in the Acc next year??!

Oh I get the irony! I just think about *good teams punishing that at some point, but of course the in game adjustment would be to send less :sweat_smile::sweat_smile:

Fun brand of basketball to watch, they push in transition but after they settle they aren’t out of control in the half court, in fact they’re pretty slow once they’re set. They went four around one the whole game, never went twin towers (never needed to). You can tell Odom likes to get the momentum: transition, trapping, pressing, threes off pretty much every offensive rebound. Look for easy buckets and daggers where they can.

As to the individual game I have mixed feelings, they’re so much more talented than SBU, so I want to discredit the easy win, but also can’t fault them for being better lol. Bonnie’s are a bad team, only one or two players who could get time at VCU. A10 POTY only scores 2 and they win by 17

Bonnies aren’t great but also not horrible either, in terms of metrics they’re around the same caliber of team as us or FSU. So essentially an above average mid major, below average high major team. They did also beat VCU earlier in the year (and then lost by 14 in Richmond).

It’s really not that hard. If you’re above the free-throw line, get back if you’re below the Free throw line go rebound.

I’ve been a Jennings fan for awhile, but he really caught my eye when St Chris beat John Marshall his Sr year, and he looked like the best player on the court. And he’d fit fine at UVa. Was a 4.0 student in HS.

His mom’s very active on social media and even followed me (back when I had twitter) when I retweeted a tweet about Tony going to go see him

Needs to spend more time in the weight room, less in the classroom

i know a coach who will kick a kid off his youth football team for getting grades like that

Well then it’s not really 4 going for the rebound is it? It could be anywhere from 0-5, so they all could go back on defense… Who said it was hard?
