TV is the CW. Which I assume means Mike Gminski will be the color guy, whom I like more than many of the ACCN color announcers.

The announcers last night were analyzing whether the ball hit the rim before the shot clock went off during the review and NOT when the ball left Lewis’ hand. How can you be a basketball announcer and not know the rules? You and I could’ve provided better color commentary.

I like Gminski, but hate that they pair him with Thom Brennaman on pxp. (He’s the deep drive to left by Castellanos guy)

I like Gminski as a commentator. He has the quality I prize most in the broadcast team, which is that he enjoys watching basketball and shares that enjoyment with the viewer.

He was also a pretty good center for the Sixers back in the day. Loved watching that dude.

Yeah, fortunately I knew “G-man” as a journeyman NBA center, including a good stint with the NJ Nets, before I knew he was a Dookie.
He was on the Nets with Buck Williams, Otis Birdsong, and Orlando Woooooooooolridge.

Sometimes I am clueless when it comes to pop culture and internet memes. I had to Google the Brennaman quote. It has its own Wikipedia article! Pretty weird. I guess he got a second chance.

To be fair, pretty sure Wes Durham was announcing before institution of the shot clock and maybe he just hasn’t adjusted to the new rules yet.

He and Spanarkel, Gene Banks, and Kenny Dennard were players when I went to Duke basketball camp. That’s how old I am.
(I can say that I played in Cameron with Gminski and Spanarkel and it’s not true except that it is true.)

Spanarkel is another great color guy! What happened between the G-Man/Spanarkel era where they taught their hoops guys to be good color guys and the Billis/J-Will era (sorry @DFresh11 ) ?

I was there at the tail end of Bill Foster the year they lost to Kentucky in the NCAAT final. Then Coach K came and they were bad while rebuilding but it was fun to watch K stand up to Dean Smith. But with success, K became an insufferable prick.

You beat me to the punch. In addition to being a detestable sack of shit, Brennaman is lousy at basketball PBP. I love the GMan, but hate that the CW pairs him with Brenneman.

Not sure how the ACC scheduling gods gave us 6 road games out of our first 9, but at least the 2nd half of the schedule is friendly.

Uh oh, I’m going to have to disagree - I think. Of course, I’ve never heard you do color commentary, but I think Debbie Antonelli is one of the better color commentators in the sport. She knows the game inside out and one of the few color commentators who actually understands the action in front of her - able to recognize and describe the “dunker spot,” “face guarding,” and the action teams are using to create shots beyond “touch the painted area.”
There is no excuse for Wes Durham. I am confident that you and anyone with eyes could provide better play by play than Wes Durham.

To be fair to Debbie… it was Wes Durham that didn’t know the rules. She just didn’t correct him.
… and I’m sure I would be a horrible basketball color analyst.
