Iām not sure that was possible. Sure the spotlight is bigger in Texas, but when your name is Manning and you play QB, the light is going to shine bright regardless of the school you attend.
Like you said Arch is suffering from a case of heās not fundamentally sound, and because of the level of competition he played in HS he was able to use his athleticism and he possessed enough skill to shine.
The case against Sark might actually be Quin Ewers he never developed into the star he was tagged to be when he shipped off to OSU and is currently hanging on by a thread in the NFL. Overall Sark has compiled a solid resume at UT but if you press anyone around the program he hasnāt come close to the goals they held for him when he arrived.
Now back to UVa, they absolutely should be looking at bringing in another QB for next year. I know they are high on Kaelin, but I do not believe his position is inked in. Now is Arch the one who can erase his name off the board? I donāt think so. Heās likely not worth the added attention he brings to the program without having a true QB whisper as HC.
If Manning came at a discount or even free (due to all of his legit third party NIL) and he can attract other recruits to come along to play with him, then he would absolutely be worth it, especially if he would stay and play 2 years.
9.4 wins! pretty heavy favorites the rest of the way except for Duke. Odds have slowly crept down on that game the last few weeks despite our good showings- Dukeās have been better.
Most likely outcome is 7-1 in conference. Insane to see so much green on this thing.
I donāt want them looking ahead too much or anything, but I wouldnāt mind if some additional staff were doing some additional Duke scouting work with the bye week.
I for one am excited that we are ranked higher than we have been before in a long time and our next game is being broadcast in the national spotlight known as theCW!
Jonas Sanker is up for Rookie of the Week. Itās a fan vote thing, so probably little to no chance heās gonna win it, but cool thatās heās getting some recognition
ESPN gives us 15% chance, which I think is a little low. Vegas odds paying like we only have a 7.6% chance. Not Dragon, but seems like a strong bet to me. And Georgia paying 6 to 1 when they probably have a 3/1 shot?
Is Sparks still hurt? Should he try to redshirt or apply for a 2022 waiver to play another year? Quite possible he might not be able to win the P job back this season.
Tonightās the night. @JBHoo and myself are going live at 9PM ET. on the JBDRAGON SHOW.
Weāll be taking questions and giving our thoughts on the first half of the season, and weāll take a look ahead at whatās ahead for the HOOS.
I know a lot of digital ink has been spilled over this team in the last few weeks, but believe me I havenāt even cracked the surface on my hot takes. Join us live tonight and letās have some fun.
For SEC championship Iām liking A&M as a bet (I have a preseason bama ticket though that Iāll probably ride out). Theyāve been a better team than everyone left in their schedule. The question is if theyād be able to beat whoever is sitting at the end of the line for them
Ole Miss is the darling but Georgia-Oklahoma back to back is tough. All these SEC contender schedules are absolutely brutal though. I wouldnāt be shocked if it was a cluster at 6-2 getting decided by tiebreakers by seasonās end.
I know 11 wins is statistically possible⦠but what is your gut on the likelihood? Is the 13%-14% a realistic percentage or is it really a UVa fandom pipe dream?
Who will win the October leaderboard contest and why will @BDragon get disqualified?
The thing with UNC that has been discussed recently is that they were mostly competing against Go5 schools for a lot of the talent they ultimately got. Theyāre also saying theyāre going all-in on high school recruiting, but I donāt see BB being there long enough to see that out.
Which is to say, I hope weāre not competing with UNC for talent right now. That would be a downgrade. The new VT coach will get a pop and will reportedly have the money to make a splash year one. Iām preparing myself for the Mullen-Colandrea stack to come back to the commonwealth. But if it is Mullen, his downfall at Florida was the recruiting side of the game.
Iām not holding my breath for Penn State to actually fall off, but nice to think about! We should definitely have a goal of ~2 in-state top 10 players in the next couple recruiting classes though, for sure.
Kam #1, obviously, in that this staff actually got an in state 4 star and turned him into an All ACC starter very quickly. Boley on the OL, Britton and Hammond on the DL as well. Minter at S.
TE doesnāt have that homerun player he can point to as being successful at the next level, but even with bad teams, heās got some players to point to who are performing and sticking at the next level.
HS recruiting is still focused on being able to sell culture. A lot has changed with money but at the end of the day if you canāt keep the vibes right in the locker room youāre playing on borrowed time. One thing TE has done well throughout his time at UVa is hold the locker room together and now heās getting some wins on the field to go along with it.
As @tonyburnertt mentioned any talks of PSU on a downward trend are greatly exaggerated. They are a +/-9.5 win program every year and even on this down year they will not be far off that. They also have enough infrastructure that should keep them afloat even with a coaching change (which is not happening this offseason, as of this post).
