Itās funny cause there was a time when he was running with the 1s during camp and now itās easy to forget heās on the roster.
Does anyone know if Makilan Thomas is going to play this year?
Donāt know if there has been an update, but the original timeline was āmultiple monthsā.
To be fair, November is multiple months away from August, soā¦. who knowsā¦?
It sounds like he is just going to take a medical RS and plan to play next year. Win/win fof him $$$ and us.
Weāre going to lose
Ford rating took a big hit last week, 122nd in the country lol. All our odds got a little worse. 10 wins still most likely outcome. Not a very interesting update this week, things are fairly settled in.
Did not realize cal tanked that much after the first couple weeks
Freshmen QB gonna Freshmen QB
Brown added a different dynamic to our backfield. Huge loss.
Time for Vaughn to step up!
Nothing to it probably but the line is creeping up to 4.5 consistently in Vegas after being settled at 4 all week.
We need to be able to run the ball. VT ran all over them. Lots of teams have recently. Theyāve given up 120+ like 5 games straight. If we donāt run the ball well this week, weāre not going to the rest of the year. Vaughn has a chance to give us a spark. Thereās not much film on him. He can create space even if the hole isnāt there. Iām not expecting huge things from him but if heās available I hope he can give us some early carries to help open things up for JāMari.
Yep. They are relatively small (but fast) on D. We should be able to pound them inside and (they have an atrocious missed tackle rate) Taylor and Waylee should be able to get yards after contact, thus wearing the D down as the game goes along. Also now time to give Vaughn Xās carries mixed in as he can turn the corner once the safeties start pinching inside. And and and all the above should be able to set up nice play action. As always it will all come down to lines vs lines for all that to work effectively.
Wow took a quick peek at a Cal message boardā¦they are super down on their team. They want Wilcox fired and donāt think theyāre going to win another game this season. I canāt admit to following them closely but it seemed like they were having a good season and Wilcox was heading in the right direction, loss to VT notwithstanding.
A never-in-doubt win would go a long way toward confidence for this team (and fanbase).
Which is a funny thing to say about a 7-1 team.
Yeah I have no idea about them. Watched most of the VT game but no idea how good of a marker that is. Looking at their W/L. Barely beat a bad UNC team and a bad BC team. Handly beat an FCS team and the worst P whatever we are calling them in Oregon St. Best win by far was against a decent Minnesota team. Loses were VT close and Duke and SDSU not close. The latter will both be bowling.
Duke scored 35 straight points against them but gave up 21 first half points. They made some adjustments and shut them down the rest of the way. Their Freshman QB does not have a lot of weapons to play with and the OL is suspect, but heās very capable of making really impressive throws in tight windows. Iām confident our 2nd half defense can keep them in check and make a play or two, but I do worry a little about our 1st half defense. Calās QB is more than capable of picking us apart if we sit back in a soft zone
The gameplan against their O seems very very simple. VT, UNC, Duke and SDSU all held Cal under 100yds rushing. Make the frosh make plays and beat you.
That feels like an overreaction from their fans. But I do get it to a degree. Squeaked out a close one at home against UNC go on the road and lay an egg against VT.
A lot of it also likely has to do with JKS and his development as a QB. He was the hottest thing in the country in week 2 and has really come back down to earth and there are questions you could ask about the scheme around him. It also probably doesnāt help they have Ron Riverra as GM standing over things and openly saying how eager they are to invest and build a program.
The Cal defense is not great. Theyāve been eaten up on the ground in back to back weeks by teams that donāt have strong offenses. Duke ran over them earlier in the season as well. Itās tough to watch your team die a slow death at the hands of an opponents rushing attack.
Blitz blitz blitz.
You nailed it Cal is at the best when they get on schedule and JKS has time to dink and dunk and mix in the intermediate passes. When teams get pressure on him the fundamentals go and he struggles to make the 2nd and 3rd reads. The Cal line is not strong so they can be moved.
Get after JKS early, build a lead then strangle the game with the rushing attack. Make Cal play from behind and force them to make plays down the field.
