Um, what? The college GM position might have the widest range of answers to “what should this job be doing and what kind of person should be doing the job” in all of sports.

Yeah, FSU was the last game we actually rushed well, and our ground game against both Louisville and UNC was genuinely bad (against WSU, the running game was… fine). We don’t need 40 carries for 200+ yards like we did against Stanford, but the floor should be something like 140-150 yards on 4-ish yards/carry.

If we can’t at least do that, then it means either everyone has figured out what we’ve doing or we’ve lost too many guys on the OL, and either way expectations for the running game should be minimal for the rest of the season. Which would be a drag, because they started out so well and were so much fun to watch. But, it is what it is. Fingers crossed.

The Pirates of the Caribbean meme with the English Captain saying “You’re the worst 7-1 team I’ve ever heard of” and Jack Sparrow says back “Yes, but I am 7-1” feels precisely on the nose.

I could be wrong, but I bet a portion of it is an understandable emotional response to exactly how they lost to VT. It felt like VT essentially ran the same play over and over again in the second half and mauled Cal almost every time. The announcers were commenting on how Cal wasn’t making any meaningful adjustment to it and how their LB set-up was begging VT to keep doing it. At one point VT ran the ball 19 out of 20 plays.

I think that’s the sort of thing where as a common naive fan (I count myself in that - I am no football strategist) you’re yelling at the TV saying “How the hell can’t you adjust to stop this? What are the coaches doing? That’s your job!” Whether that’s fair or not based on Cal’s defensive personnel, what they were seeing in how VT lined up, etc, I don’t know enough to know, but seeing your defense get gashed by literally the same thing over and over in a winnable game is gonna make people pissed at the coaches. It feels like a coaching failure, fair or not.

Cal fans hate Wilcox for whatever reason. It’s been brewing for a bit.

Agreed that we need to disrupt their offense. Freshman QB can definitely get rattled and we have the pieces to do that and capitalize on it.

We should be able to contain their offense.

Still worried about our offense. Chandler being able to move would be huge. Drones was able to really thrive on the ground. I would love to see a couple true wildcat sets this week to be honest, let’s run it down their throat lol

And yet Cal’s LB won ACC LB of the week lol.

Yeah just tell chandler not to take any stupid hits. We can still let him run without necessarily getting him crushed.

Kinda like how the best punter is typically on the worst team. He had plenty of opportunities to tackle guys running right at him

Like how Quin Blanding led the ACC in tackles for years. You can really rack up stats in the secondary if no one else on your team is going to make the stops lol

I compared Chandler’s 2024 stats to his current season at UVa. Basically, he is more efficient passing this season, lower INT rate, and more or less the same in terms of running production and run-pass breakdown. Current season he is throwing for fewer yards per game and tracking to fewer TD passes. But, all in all, he is not that far off. I would like to see how he would be doing if he was healthier. His leadership has been excellent.

So is game day coming next weekend?!?!

Dependent on saturdays results. Root for Hoos (duh) Wake and Kansas State. Stat nugget, Texas tech hasn’t won at KState since ‘08.

I think @BillyHoyle said the results didn’t matter this weekend.

If the results didn’t matter, they’d announce it before Sunday. They won’t and haven’t for a few years now.

Yup gameday always has backup plans depending on how the weekend results go. Nothing is set in stone until the games get played.

Yes sir. Do I believe they’ve reached out and had discussions on logistics? Absolutely. But they’ve done that with atleast 2-3 places, maybe more. And this is an every week thing…

Again, I’m not an expert or anything but I was told that we told espn we needed more time to make it happen on the Lawn if that’s what they wanted.

Yeah if that’s true rough look. Would doubt they’d come anytime soon if so. We’ve only had since November 1993 to plan for it.
