Host it at the AFC. Those swimming banners in the background would be :fire:

Plus close to the football stadium!

I’m still worked up about this the next morning.

What needs done to prep the lawn?

They contact schools 2 weeks out, we have a beautiful campus with a central landmark that may genuinely be one of the most beautiful academic settings in the United States. ESPN wants to broadcast with it in the background on one of their most watched shows for free for 3 hours. Make the necessary preparations this week for them to come and if they don’t come that’s tough. Consider it a practice round.

We are a very rich institution, we can afford a couple bucks worth of risk for the opportunity. It’s embarrassing we’ve never had it! Tell gameday “yes, no problem the Rotunda awaits” and figure it out later. Who’s even saying no? Not like there’s a real president right now.

I think we may still get it and they may still get it figured out, but that’s just not the right answer to those guys. And If we end up with it but not on the Lawn, that may be even worse! I will dedicate the rest of my life as a UVa fan to holding anyone responsible for that to account.

And FWIW I heard something similar many years ago from a donor about our hosting it on the lawn should we ever get it. It’s something they’ve thought about and don’t really want to do for years.

I do think we’re still like 55% likely to get it at this point though. Like it or not Game Day isn’t a charitable endeavor for the sport anymore and we’re an ESPN partner and TTU isn’t. They’ve been getting a lot of heat about the SEC, and this satisfies both pressures. Let Big Noon kick it in Lubbock. I heard the BYU fans have already fallen in love with Portnoy (as long as he doesn’t curse!) so that means both fan bases will appreciate the trip.

If true, it is a massive PR mistake and missed opportunity not only for the football program, but for the University. Tony and Carla should be livid.

Interesting. I have no confidence in our offense being able to score. Kind of surprised to see things move our way but maybe this is the week we learn how to move the ball despite Morris’ injury

Check out my game preview in a few hrs i know why its moving

Don’t do this to me

One of the Big 12’s TV contracts is with ESPN.

I can’t imagine it’s that different than what they have to do to prep the Lawn for graduation. More power requirements I guess.

Oh shit I forget they don’t have their own network that Fox operates. That will be an ESPN or ABC game too. That is actually not great for us.

I just don’t understand why we, a “smart person school”, who employs smart people, can’t figure out the logistics of hosting a TV studio set with a medium sized crown on the Lawn on a Saturday morning when literally almost a hundred other schools have figured out how to do that very thing over the past several decades. Why are we tripping over our own feet here? I bet if Jim Ryan were still President he would make sure it happened. He understood the PR and possible application increase implications and actually cared about the University’s future.

then he’d just get axed again for allowing the woke disney corporation DEI show on grounds or something

Why can’t we just do it somewhere else?

Totally spitballing, but maybe the fact that the Lawn is National Historic Landmark and a UNESCO World Heritage site adds complexity to setting up a television studio/crowd or just brings out the anal-retentive-no-one-can-have-fun-finger-wagging losers in full force.
