šŸ€ Virginia at Duke, Saturday, 28 February 2026, 1200, ESPN/2

This feels like a game where Malik will struggle against superior athleticism and length. He’s not going to get bailed out by the refs on any drives and the Duke wings aren’t going to be easy for him to shake.

Aside from how we handle Boozer, I think the biggest swing in the game will be how our lead guards handle the point-of-attack defense from Dame Sarr. He has been a force on that end, and we have had some games where we have really struggled turning the ball over. Need a clean game to have a shot Saturday.

I’m thinking they should have whoever Sarr isn’t guarding bringing the ball up… and for me it would be a waste for them to put him on Hall.

Love this. Bet Jacari is really happy we swooped in with a late offer. Will never forget the dopamine spike I got when @USSoccer13 came in with a ā€œJacari White inboundā€ out of the clouds last offseason.

Think that 80% of our baskets were assisted that game. At one point, our super undersized roster was doubling up Duke in the paint. Shedrick was awesome. Tony was coaching with his hair on fire. Can really see how much the pandemic had ravaged the roster building of the team in this group.

I’m less concerned about our defense and more about making shots early. If we start cold and they build a double digit lead then we’re cooked, unlike how we were able to come back from similar poor starts on the road against lesser competition. Need to drain some 3s in the first 10 min or so.

Sarr better get the Tony Allen treatment when he’s on offense. This might be too aggressive, but I’d consider doing the NBA strategy where they guard the worst shooter with the best help defender and have the defender completely roaming.

I expect this game to be close.

At the Miami game in the nosebleeds of section 311 there was a couple in their late 30s wearing Jacarmy shirts and white headbands. Just the two of them.

I may need to be physically restrained from betting the Hoos spread right now. I think we’re better than 9.5 point dogs to them, but I could also see this game getting out of hand on us pretty quick leading to us jacking 3s at like a 25% clip and never recovering.

Although, we haven’t really seen an Odom era team get blown out. For a half maybe, but we’ve basically been in every game we’ve played (granted, we’ve never played a team this good).

It is funny to me how much the talking heads hated our style under CTB, and now we’re playing with tempo, 25-3, they’ve kinda ignored us until this week because we’re playing CBB’s version of the Cowboys/Yankees.

This is a different Duke team - they play defense, really good defense. We will have to shoot well from 3 and limit turnovers and fouls, because if the past is any indicator, they will make more FTs that our FTAs. I’m hoping to get out with a respectable loss that sets us up with confidence that we can play with anybody for the next 4-5 weeks.

We have no chance. My prediction for the final score is 2.

More important to get in foul trouble:

  • Boozer
  • Sarr
