This is where I disagree. He absolutely was still a miseval and and unplayable. Tony was literally the one deeming him unplayable because he didnât fit the scheme. It took us getting blown out by mediocre teams for Tony to finally make the adjustment to stop relying so heavily on the hardhedge and post double that finally allowed Minor to become playable. He isnât any better or worse then a month or two ago/when we hard hedged he was still out of place which lead to open 3s and buckets inside from being out of position.
Minor didnât click or finally get the defense down. Tony adjusted his scheme. If we were to enter the portal again we need to get someone who is playable right off the bat in staffs eyes.
Due time is when Tony finally decides to be like âHey we need a center in and we need to stop giving up wide open 3s on bad execution on rotations out of our help D. Two birds one stone?â. We could have done yesterday to NC State and Notre Dame.
Except we gave up about seven wide-open corner three attempts yesterday on bad rotations/late closeouts â about the same as against VPI.
Where Minor is helping is that he has some post moves and can draw fouls and set screens. Iâd argue that the decision was an offensive one as opposed to a defensive one. When youâre on the road and are having trouble scoring, it helps to have a dude down low who can create space for others. And defenders are or will be less likely to leave Minor on help when Beekman is driving.
Minor is averaging 12.0 ppg since his insertion into the starting lineup (9, 16, 11).
I agree and while itâs been said that TB had to adjust the defense to help fit Minor into the starting lineup, Minor also had to make a leap offensively in the B/M for him to stay on the floor. In his limited playing time earlier this season he looked pretty lost in halfcourt sets and couldnât convert at the rim to save his life, now with more practice time and in-game action heâs starting to get comfortable in his role as a blocker and finisher.
Said only that the defense is still late on rotations and closeouts no matter whoâs on the floor.
GT had four uncontested threes in the first seven minutes yesterday â all of which with Minor on the floor. Not saying itâs his fault â the underlying issues are still there (probably more on McKneely and Rohde, and Beekman and Dunn still gambling a bit).
The GT student section was as loud as Iâve seen it but overall they are very non threatening. Also the layout of the stadium kind of splits the. Up and ruins the effectiveness
I think I mentioned it before but my favorite play last night was GT with the ball, GT sets a screen and instead of hedge Reece just switches onto the big and then quickly switches back.
Started crying tears of joy. And GT didnât score
Remember that play well. Their big (Ndongo?) hesitated and stayed at the top of the key too long, which enabled us to switch back out of the double mismatch.
That was a massive play. Last few games Hoos been on the wrong side of the end of the half beat. Taine forcing the steal and having the awareness to scoopand score was huge.
I just realised what I think it is. His release is more AT the basket than UP and getting his hand into the proverbial cookie jar. So his 3 is just a touch flatter and less room for error.
I love his one dribble pull up shots. He âfloatsâ those more
Deepest in game range I ever saw was Dennis Scott. They would draw up plays where they set a Matt Geiger screen for him 35 feet out and he would seemlessly drain it. Amazing at 6-8
Yes. Running joke is if I went in amongst the trees and shot JJ would yank me out. 3 from anywhere greenest of lights
Most I ever made in one game was 6 at home vs Wake. Fun doing that against Coach Odom who was never convinced I was an ACC player. BUT he did tell me 2 things âif you come to Uva you will get better in basketball and you will have a very pretty girlfriend(s)â.
